2011 election result to be released instantly’
Latest news
Written by Ismail Mudashir, Kaduna
Results of the 2011 general elections will be released almost instantly as it will be conducted with the newly introduced electronic voting system, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Maurice Iwu disclosed this yesterday in Kaduna.
Speaking when he paid Governor Mohammed Namadi Sambo of Kaduna a courtesy visit as a prelude to the first national stakeholders’ forum on the electronic system, he said Nigerians would be able to watch and record happenings in polling stations across the country as they unfold.

“States would be able to have their aggregates and judge for themselves the results of election in their respective polling booths even before we release the results. INEC is fully computerised to carry out the election using e-voting system. And this will make our work easier and better,’ but let me quickly admit that computer will not provide any solution to such things as when people have disease of the mind, when people refuse to accept defeat even when they lose elections,” he said.

GOOD!!!

Nice. . . . It will be interesting to see how electoral fraudsters will tamper with this newly proposed initiative IF it goes ahead on time!

Relax MrCrackles,

I am sure they are already devising a way of getting around the machine.

Good? When there was physical paper involved they still found a way to rig. Now it's electronic, do you know how easy it will be to rig? When the system starts counting votes from 1000 instead of 0. The only thing this will reduce is the violence associated with stealing ballot boxes and the like.
Re: 2011 Election Result To Be Released Instantly by fyneguy: 1:01pm On Jul 09, 2009
And what stops riggers from destroying machines where they are likely to lose? undecided

Rigging made easier, IWU nice one grin grin grin

its purely garbage in and garbage out, it seems they cant even wait till election day to rig now, they simply write a programme to that effect ahead,
Re: 2011 Election Result To Be Released Instantly by mayrho(m): 1:14pm On Jul 09, 2009
1st what is Iwu still doing in INEC
2nd who told you they don't have it programmed to favour a party
3rd another way to siphon money
God save us from this unscrupulous elements
Re: 2011 Election Result To Be Released Instantly by dfanthom(m): 1:16pm On Jul 09, 2009
Hey, let's be mindful because they have NOW perfected the art of rigging without regrets!
watch & see, these men don't get tired & like they said this might just be the first step to consolidating their rule for 60years, a dictatorship! angry

shocked It looks like nothing can satisfy we Nigerians. Why not let us give this new approach a benefit of doubt first. If we have better suggestions we can equally bring them forward either by writing them in the dailies or submitting our own proposals to them one way or the other. Personally, I don't have faith in Iwu any longer also but I still believe the introduction of electronic voting is not a bad idea.
Re: 2011 Election Result To Be Released Instantly by wirinet(m): 2:53pm On Jul 09, 2009
To me we should go back to first principles - Option A4, let everybody stand behind a candidate of their choice and be counted. This secret-secret, open-secret or secret-open system we are operating is the biggest problem we have.

Electronic Voting System can only work were the Operators of the computer are bias party men appointed by Members on the ruling political parties. In our case where the Chairman of INEC and other commissioners are loyal party members, you can expect the result to be released before the actual voting takes place.

Where were you when Ekiti election re-run was taking place. They rigged glaringly right in front of us all, even with over 10,000 police men in only a few wards. Now how is electronic voting going to address fake results from INEC. How can you insult Nigerians by saying nothing can satisfied Nigerians, well if you are satisfied majority of Nigerians had been deceived time and time again.

Maurice or Iwu or whatever they call him must be relieved of his duty because I don't think he understand Nigeria fully.I think he should ask the literacy rate from the Minister for Information & Communications so he will know the system is less likely to work here in Nigeria. The countries which use that system is advanced in education. grin grin grin

The Machines are American and their operation will probably be outsourced.
To be honest I just think it will become like Kenya where the vote will be clean but the losers will simply drum up thugs to fight for them anyways.

I vehemently disagree with your indictment of losers of elections in Nigeria. If the Elections are Free, Fair and Transparent, it would be foolhardy to complain and fight in such an election because the person would look stupid. Even in the case where the elections is disputed, the actual materials can easily be retrieved and recounted in your presence without any shenanigans.

But the voodoo results from voodoo elections in Nigeria will make a case for even a saint to complain, and besides if you do not compete in the thuggery, intimidation and/or ballot box snatching coupled with adequate bribing the electoral officers, police and other agencies, then you are not ready to challenge the incumbent. you votes would be easily "captured", - ask Tinunbu.

Wonderful point.
Human being counting and they are rigging, human will operate the machine and they will count what is fed into the machine, so what make them feel like they dont have paper ready from some ghost voters?
there is no way this will stop rigging.
It wont stop ghosts
and will never give a free and fair election.

I do have a question. Are the machines in place and already tested or is this just the same old " WE WILL DO THIS AND THAT" gist? I know a particular person who works with INEC and the dude ain't even technical to date.

Expedited Rigging is here to stay.

One press of a button and 1,000 votes can disappear. Good luck. sad
Re: 2011 Election Result To Be Released Instantly by iniguy(m): 7:01am On Jul 10, 2009
This new system will work, rigging will be drastically eliminated, the system won't be 100% effective but at least Nigerians will experience free and fair elections. There must be adequate training of manpower and mass voter education. But before then, that man Maurice iwu must be kicked out of that office!
