I watched with disgust on NTA this week how our so called Hon minister of works, Mr Fashola commissioned an old locomotive which was taking its first run from Kaduna to Abuja and which I believe had since in the early 80s been dumped by developed countries.
Is Nigeria that poor or our leaders are shortsighted to invest in those old rags.
Are we not ripe for an express train?
doyin okukpe told us that Nigerians are not ripe for modern train . He said this under a pdp government.

This politicians take Nigerians for fool because we make it so. If we make an average of 50,000 per worker every month )which is even very low considering how much is paid in the construction industry) and multiply by 250,000 jobs we are talking of a salary of about 12.5billion a month. How much is the cost of the railway to afford to pay out that amount as salary. Round pegs in square holes.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said on Friday that the Lagos-Kano Rail project would be completed in the next two years.
Amaechi, who said this while inspecting the Abuja-Kaduna rail project in Kaduna, added that, it would generate employment for 250,000 Nigerians.
He said the ongoing rail project from Lagos-Kano and Lagos-Calabar would generate more employment than the Abuja-Kaduna rail modernisation project.
He further stated that a training institute would be established by the Chinese company to train Nigerians on operations, maintenance and communication.
“For the Lagos-Kano and Lagos-Calabar rail project, we expect to generate like 250,000 employment opportunities both formal and informal.
“We are negotiating with General Electric in America to construct a narrow gauge from Lagos to Kano and they cannot run that without training Nigerians.
“If the communication system goes down how do we revive it, so they would also teach Nigerians how to maintain it.
“If we want to replace it, how do we replace it, so the key thing is transfer of technology and that will be the focus of the ministry.”
He said government would ensure that the rail service was affordable for the masses.

Rotimi Amaechi, tell even your self the truth:, Lagos-Calabar rail line exists only on paper. It is not realistic given the marshy and swampy nature of the route.
Crude oil price has collapsed, no hope for rising in the foreseeable future.

Even the East-West road started on the same Lagos-:Calabar route has not materialized afte about three decades of construction, because of the swampy nature of the route.

All these Lagos-Calabar routes are fantasies of new colonialists from north and southwest Nigeria to maintain a direct link from north and southwest to, and to control the oil producing areas of the south south while cutting off the southeast.

Most comments on this blog are too childish and disgusting. How can one say employing 250000 people is not feasible? Of course The Hon.Minister didn't say that the rail company would employ such no.of persons but what he's implying is that from the pre-construction to commissioning, that's the number to be employed which to me is even meagre compared to the enormous project. Secondly all these Pro-Jonathan hypocrites should understand that Government is continuum. The fact that He conceived the project should not imply that if this Administration completes it,then it's to Jonathan's credit. This is the reason we have uncompleted projects scattered all over the country because a new administration initiates new one's after been sworn in despite the huge funds sunk on the project he inherited because he wants to be seen as a performer.

Can you pay the transport cost that a very modern train will cost? Most people can't. And if they don't earn enough revenue to cover cost, people will start lamenting.
