The ongoing credentials check of members of the rank and file in the Nigeria Police Force initiated by the management of the Police Service Commission (PSC) has unmasked several constables within the service without the requisite basic qualifications, including primary and senior secondary school certificates.
Daily Independent gathered that the PSC officials who were in the 31 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja for the exercise were stunned that over 1,500 constables are without the basic entry qualifications into the force.
The PSC officials who preferred anonymity said that states badly affected are those within the South West and the northern parts of the country.
One of the sources who was in charge of the exercise in Lagos, gave a clean bill of health to those recruited by the Lagos State Police Command.
According to our investigations, those badly affected by the screening are police recruits of 2000.
