Loving this thread.
Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am a humanist. I get along well anyone that embraces humanistic principles (including religious people that are humanistic); I used to debate theists on NL but I got tired of typing excessively.

Also, I want to agree with @JackBizzle's observations about Nigerian doctor's and nurses; they always seem pissed and unwilling to be challenged. I live in another country and the differences in attitude are very stark. I'm sure that there are some kind charismatic Naija doctors/nurses that are willing to be engaged by the patient, but I have never met one in a Nigerian hospital yet.

Also, @tufanja I like your temperament.
Welcome Sir. Your contribution is appreciated.

Great!

Many Nigerian doctors and nurses need to be retrained in customer care. They are just too harsh. I remember in the UK when I refused to take an important injection- the nurse begged me to take it and after a while, I did. In Nigeria, the nurse will insult you and then tell you to die since you dont want to take medication.

Welcome to the house! Please feel at home and thanks for introducing yourself. We will try not to nurse you the nigerian way wink. Which style would please you?

Jackbizzle said something about the bullying style of medical training and how it affects the next generation practisioners to pay forward in the same unkind. Its pretty true. But it is not an exclusive Nigerian problem but a general problem in the field. I am talking out of experience. They know how to make u feel trash sometimes.

A lot of people working in the medical field once started idealistic, with compassion for those suffering and a desire to bring healing and comfort. They got hardened and disappointed along the way, by enduring a lot, working crazy hours for bad or no pay, sacrificing the best years of their young life to specializing while others are settling down and starting families.

These days, people are only nice when u pay for their smile. A salesgirls is only kind because she plans to empty your pocket. Maybe nigerian nurses/dr will also become nice when u pay them accordingly. Its a sad word.

Lol thanks for checking my temp(erature)

I don't really know. I've heard of Nurses shouting and insulting patients who are in dire conditions. I often get a heartbreak when I think about this country. I wonder if I will ever witness 24 hours electricity before I die. It really saddens me.

You mean 24 hours for 365 days or just 24 hours?

An observation:
I was to have a tooth removed initially at the General Hospital believing they at least had competent specialists there. The dentist that examined me wasn't gentle and I felt like a miniature ice-pick-axe was used on me like I was mined.

I never went there again.

It's a good instinct not to go again that's my opinion. The first time I saw incidents of tooth removal was in a general hospital. I witnessed a number of inhuman treatments. There was this one dental nurse that was very rude to one full grown man who was screaming on top of his voice because of his teeth that was removed. All the nurse could find to say was "see how old man like you is shouting like a child. I beg keep quiet". In one of the rooms there was one senior doctor who was also inspecting the drugs and equipment in that room. He saw drugs that was expired like 2 years back and he was showing the attending doctor the drug and the reply he got was "the drug is still working well on patients". I was shocked. Worse yet the senior doctor took away some of the expired drugs and still left some others.

That experience got me scared of pulling off my teeth. In later years I had a changed of mind when I went to one private hospital. The doctor was kind and very attentive to me. He allayed my fears and I gave up my hesitancy and allowed the doctor to work on my teeth. The doctor and the nurse was so nice during the treatment. In fact the pains were barely noticeable although i screamed once in a while but it was not really out of the physical pain but the buried fear in me.

I wonder could my experience be of any help to you?
