There's this girl am seeing presently.... Although have known her since my primary school days, we started dating last year(Tanks To Facebook).... The relationship so far has been nothing but good, if nt the best have had all my life. My sisters and my mum already knows about her. My major challenge thus far is that she's a muslim by religion and my mum said she gats practice christianity if we are to settle down. So there was this day we were just having nice time out, and I stylishly told her M already thinking of the christian name she's going to use when we finally settle down but she ddnt obliged but instead said her father won't accept as he's a cleric. She said she would definitely spend the rest of her life with me if God permits, but she can't abandon Muslim for christianity. Please house help me as my mum said is nt so good for husband and wife to practice different religions.

I think marriage entails becoming one in all ramifications. I dont support a marriage where the husband and wife are practising different religions. It means you are spiritually in disagreement.

One wise man said; the principle of mating necessitates that each species mate after its kind. Go beyond biological likeness and identify psychological and spiritual likeness...marriage only works when you marry your kind. 'Nuff said

Akuko. Go for your Christian folks brother and avoid a family problem on time. prevention is better than cure. because, by the time we start seeing threads from you, OYO will be your case.

This is not to discourage you but I have a little story from a similar situation. It happened to my friend. Her mum was muslim, while the dad is christian, they were in love and they got married. No one gave up his or her religion. The problem came from the woman's family as they never supported her marrying a non muslim. She went against their advice and got married. To punish her for disobedience, they cut every contact and communication with the woman, they never met her children.
Years later after 3 children, she was happy in her home, my friend was in in Jss 3 the mum was pregnant again, unfortunately, she died during child birth, and her family came from no where to pay their condolence. They took her body to bury according to islamic rite and volunteered to help the man look after the new born baby, so he doesn't disturb his work, all he has to do was send money for upkeep and visit the child whenever he can. He agreed and was grateful for their show of love and support. Everything went on as planned until after a few months, they kept asking for money and more money, but whenever the man request to see his child they will just blank out. When the man noticed something was amiss, he travelled down to her family house, to see his child by any means possible but no one answered him.
The man was frustrated, he involved the police and then court, when the case was still ongoing, my friend lost her dad who before now was very healthy, he just died in his sleep. My friend was just in SS1, she and her 2 siblings became orphans. An uncle had to take them in and care for them. Years has passed since then, my friend is a graduate now and her younger ones are in school. She said if she sees that her brother who was taken away from them on the road she will definitely walk pass him because she doesn't know what he looks like.
Religion in marriage is a very serious issue that should be handled with care. Please be wise with your decision.

no need for dogo trenchi, if both really love eachother, you both should agree on one religion, either she join you in ur xtian way, or you join her in her muslim way,or make una kukuma go seperate ways, you can always find another to love, but don't mix infactuation with love, just saying

The bible says, can two work together except they be agreed?
Why do you fish in strange waters?
Having the same spiritual direction is best for a family.

Pastor Chris Okotie has divorced two Christian wives. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome just divorced Pastor (Mrs) Anita Oyakhilome. Alhaji Abubakar Audu divorced Hajia Audu before his death. However, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu the Jagban of Africa is still happily married to Pastor (Mrs) Oluremi Tinubu while Alhaji Babatunde Fashola is still happily married to Dame Emmanuella Fashola just as my humble self proposed Alhaji Simpleseyi is still happily married to holy spirit filled Iya-Jesus Mrs Simpleseyi.

Pastor Mrs Adeboye is still married to Pastor Adeboye.Pastor Mrs Oyedepo is still married to Bishop Oyedepo.
How come you didn't see that? You are dealing more with the exception rather than the norm.
The bible says to be of the same faith. It makes life easier and together can forge in the same direction.

dayojags10, from what you wrote, sorry to say, both of you do not have a mind of your own. her excuse is "her dad is a cleric" and your excuse is "ur parent want her to change"

i am a muslim and dh is a christian, we have been married for close to 4 years, with a kid and the other on the way, both of us are still practicing our various religions. We both love each other so much and are practicing our religion cos we want to practice them not cos our parents wants us to.

i have my praying corner in my inlaws house. we do all festivals together as a couple and thats it.

Figur, your story can as well happen to families that are same religion but the family never wanted them to marry so its not cos of the religious difference.

Simpleseyi and thorpido, marriage is beyond religion, no matter your religious belief, if your marriage will see the light of the day, it depends on both of you. there are people with same religion and happy as well as there are those with different and are also happy. its both sides of the coin.

so OP, first thing first, if your parent have to dictate how you will run your home, you are already starting on a wrong foot. they don't want her cos of her religion, they will reject another for something else. make up your mind and do what you feel is best for you.

my 2 cents.

Sure marriage is beyond religion. There are people who don't even pratice religion and have a peaceful marriage. However, when both partners have different religions,it can complicate things. For people who practice 'liberal religion',they usually don't have a problem with it like in your case.
However, for someone who walks in Christ or someone who is a deep follower of the quran,it won't work.
Your marriage is still young(4yrs).As you get older, some things will start to play out e.g. where will the children go?The church or the mosque?

I agree with you the Op doesn't yet have a mind of his own however.

Ur married to a Christian although islam goes against it! U do realize that it's clearly stated in the quran that a Muslim woman can NOT marry a Christian man? That means u really are not a Muslim and u disrespected Allah's words and ignored the quran.

As for the OP , please let her be, don't force her to change her religion in the name of love. It's a huge sin in islam nd its punishment is by death. she will never be forgiven as she would be comitting one of the FIRST MAJOR SIN in islam "SHIRK" unknowingly cry . I advise u to let her go and to not allow her change her religion it's just gonna cause fitna as I'm 100% sure her family will abandon her nd she will have to live without their blessings for the rest of her life! So please consider this before u draw her to commit a major sin!!
