I have worked as a human resource officer for three years now, but it seems to me that applicants( especially the ones that have passed through the universities and polytechnics have really lost focus. i have witnessed a scenario where a graduate of ( name of university withheld) was unable to write a simple application letter, just because i compelled him to write it in my presence. This is disheartening in the sense that some people that are not meant to go to school will bribe their way through and still sort themselves out of the school without being able to make a correct sentence on their own.
The last time i posted a job here, some of the CVS's i got were just FUNNY AND MISERABLE and some are not even related to the field that i was searching for. Fellow Nigerians which way are we going? Some applicants just need to go back and review their Cv's if not no employer will ever invite you for interview, i just keep wondering, the people that have this Cv's ;are they not worried that no one have ever called them for interview. Its is high time we all wake up and tell ourselves the truth. Most Nigerian graduates are quarter, half or even two third baked!!!peace.

Thousands who can write in Cambridge level English are still lurking out here without jobs. If we're being honest, when you advertised that job didn't you also get many CVs from people who are overqualified for the position?

Why is it that you Nigerians find it so difficult to listen to the truth and take an advice? Someone in HR is giving you serious lessons that can help improve your chances of getting a job you busy insulting instead of taking notes.

all what the person wrote up there na lie?.

A lot of graduate today not all but few are olodos. I went for an interview once and a computer science graduate doesn't know how to operate a computer and you expect an interviewer not to be annoyed?

The level of bribery and corruption in Nigerian universities these days is outrageous. We truly have half baked graduates

The OP made a good point. He's talking based on experience.
Truth be told, how do you expect him to employ someone who can't write a simple application letter.

Application letter is intended to provide detailed information on why you are qualified for the job you are applying for. Shikena.

Why can't the candidate put that into writing...Its either he/she doesn't have the required skills, or it has to do with English palava.

This is not the nicest of ways to critique the OP's assertions.

The new problem we seem to have in Nigeria is when we fail to call (and realize that) a spade (is) a spade. We now employ the use of sentiments and 'just because' kinda stances. I read the other thread where someone was justifying the wrong use of English by a graduate; in doing so, the person also used 'just because' to attack those who corrected the fellow.

Has the OP said something wrong HAs he assumed a judgmental position Does he have the right to do so Has he written based on experience or hearsay

We are really going south. People, focus on the issues.

It's so sad that a lot of our people are not able to handle the simple Truth. They will assume they are being picked on. Truth be told, a lot of graduates are just not articulate or seasoned enough to make any employer want to employ them. They feel all they have to equip themselves with is their glowing CVs (most probably composed by someone else on their behalf). You tell them to brush themselves up, they ask you if English is their mother tongue. Even some comments posted on here leaves a lot to be desired.

But dear let's also face the truth, just as we have "half-baked", we equally have just as much seasoned grads out here, and you know this.

APPLICANTS are losing it! ... Topic.

HRs are gaining it! .... Body of the message.

HRs! HRs! HRs!
How many times have I called you people? You guys need to relax and start working like Human Resource Managers truly. I'm yet to see one HRM who really understands his/her job.

Remember the HR was once an applicant. OP, one Uni graduate couldn't write an application letter. Agreed. What about the hundreds who have written sound application letters? Have you employed them all? No.

Stop announcing the loss, let's see the proceeds.

For the fact that one (just one) out of the million applications, couldn't write an application letter, should not make you generalized that all Nigerian graduates are half baked.

If you were a good HR personnel, you will probe to know why the applicant couldn't write an application letter, when you find out the problem, you render possible solutions.

I know the reason why you even picked the guy in the first place was because, an insider in your firm or probably you, submitted his CV. so I don't know why you are ranting.
