The court has agreed on alleged husband killer Yewande Oyediran’s mode of appearance during proceedings.
Yewande is facing trial at an Oyo State High Courtpresided by Justice Mukhtar Abimbola for allegedly stabbing her
France-based businessman husband to
death at Akobo area of Ibadan last month.
Both the prosecuting and defence lawyers had been engaged in a war of words after Yewande appeared in court wearing a veil.
But at the hearing on Wednesday, the court agreed to let the accusedperson to appear in court wearing a veil, saying it would give the suspect the freedom to show her face to only counsel and the trial judge.
The development followed a motion moved by counsel for the family of the deceased, who read a note purportedly written by a member of the family
doubting the true identity of the suspect.
According to counsel the appellant, Chief Aliyu, thedeceased’s familydemanded the removal ofthe cloth being used by
the suspect to cover herface during trial to
ascertain her identity.
When asked to react, OyoState Director of PublicProsecutions, who is alsothe state counsel, Mr.Tajudeen Abdulganiy,
disagreed with the lawyerfor the family, saying thesuspect was onlyresponsible to the courtand not the people at the

Personally, I've never heard of any accused person going to court with veil o. This is partiality. Anybody can hide under veil now. How are we sure it's the real her that's under the veil. This is totally unacceptable! Justice must prevail. May the soul of her husband she sent to early grave rest in peace.

This should be contested. Since when did criminals start wearing veils to court! Bad precedence in my view. Soon armed robbers, kidnappers et al will be requesting to be veiled.

just Imagine. Don't get why the court should permit her face to be hidden. The world need to recognise her and be careful around her in case she's freed.

Eyin obirin sha. Una no dey gree. Though, while you're right about not taking betrayal lightly, I fear this guy would still have been in danger over some other smaller, maybe not to the point of death, but this woman obviously has anger management issues. The fact that she's a lawyer strengthens this opinion, lay men have shown greater restraint in the face of sterner provocation.
