Greetings to all professionals in the house especially those that have taken up the daunting task of providing guidance and counseling free of charge.

I am a petroleum engineering graduate presently on national youth service. I want to undertake some professional course before the termination of this service year and making a decision as to which to take has become a herculean task.

I am thinking of
NIM (Nigerian Institute of Management)
I was told this is not good for engineers

PMP (Project Management Professionals)
These guys offer both HSE and PMP Certification. Some people told me to do PMP while others argued HSE is better since no company will give a graduate trainee a project to handle in his 1st 5years. And since I have some field experience during my IT, that I will start the HSE on level 2

PMI (Project Management Institute)

I was told this outfit is clone of PMP. I dont even know which of them is real.

I need help please.

Good day all,i want to commend all the post made by everyone, this is the best forum i have ever visited, alot of advice.God bless all the contributors.
pls i need some advice.Am a young guy read civil engineering, but had some drilling trainin outside the shores of nigeria.and i passed and obtained my
HSE RIG PASS
DRILLING PRODIGY
IWCF COMBINED SURFACE AND SUBSEA
IADC WELLCAP WELL CONTROL.
but getting a job in the oil and gas industry has been really difficult for me.i dont really have any experience apart from my trining experience, but i have had priviledge to show my certificates to those in the industry, they say i have good certificates and will learn faster, tha t they will get back to me.But i dont usually hear back from them.Am willing to start from scratch, learn and grow, but dont know why i dont hear from them, pls what do you think might be the problem,or is there something am not doing right,or any assistance in terms of placement anyone can assist me,i will appreciate.thanks and God bless

Hello Dr Ferlie,

I am new to nairaland and i must say i am surprised at resources available on this website.I am a graduate of geology and i have some certification courses from International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC).I currently hold IADC WellCAP (well control),HSE Rig PASS,Fall protection,Confined space and i have been trying to get a job placement in the oil and gas drilling industry. My interest is basically in drilling,i have even gone as far as applying for roughneck jobs so that i can get industry experience and learn as much as i can.I wouldn't know if you could advise me on how to actually get into the industry looking at all the certifications i have.

Thank you Doc.

i am really happy for you,
now get down to real work, study and fun, your future starts now !!!

@ baffel and prince

go to most drilling companies website and apply on their site, hint on all the certificates you have , you just have to be patient, its not automatic, the certificate will only get your foot to the door, its how you market your self and your experience that will do the rest.
just keep sending unsolicited applications , it will surely catch some one's attention.
It's sometimes difficult to break in to the drilling circle but once you are in, you make contacts and stay in.

don,t loose hope

@ Okeyz, Dr Felie and all the seasoned veterans here,

Please what is the schedule like for MWD Engineers in Nigeria. A family friend is keen on returning to Nigeria. He works MWD in the US and he basically has no schedule. I heard from some people that it is rotation. i.e 28/28 or something like that but the guy keeps telling me there is no schedule because he works all the time in the US and comes back home for like 2-5 days and is back on the rig again. He mostly works on Land rigs.

he cud easily get an mwd job in naija, based on his yankee experience.mwd engrs dont basically rotate in nigeria, the normally stay until drilling is done or the section is done, expect to stay month offshore standard practise, ur being swapped out is based on ur managers discretion.

his best bet if he wnts to hv time for his family is to get an intl job where he cud rotate 28/28 or something close,

Hello nairalanders,  Pls į̸̸̨ was given this assignment,  Nd į̸̸̨ nid to find my way around it,
į̸̸̨ will be really greatful if u̶̲̥̅̊ can help me as it will go a long way to helping my career.

Assignment instructn,
The asset management team responsible for petros corporation of the tremonT onshore field which  is a land fielD has recently completed an appraisal of the 6th zone reservoir,  And is noW preparing a development programme,

The team has given u̶̲̥̅̊ a proposed bottom hole location (subsurface target) hole location for d̶̲̥̅̊ first development well adams 8. Target location is į̸̸̨♌ block d4, approximately0.5km (1640ft) from the property boundary between petros and apex oil and gas company,

The discovery Well for the 6th zone anTiclinE was apex's copley1, 4 additional wells, copley3, adams4, adams6, and adams 7have either tested orare currently producing commercial qttys of oil,

Three others (copley2, stuart 1 and adams5 ) were dRilled outside of the structure boundaries, and subsequently abandoned,

Task;
EStablish the drilling objectives for this well į̸̸̨♌ keeping with the overall reservoir management strategy, and to identify some of the key issues to be addressed į̸̸̨♌ the well planning process,  At a measured depth of 9000ft,

fro ur statement u said
The discovery Well for the 6th zone anTiclinE was apex's copley1, 4 additional wells, copley3, adams4, adams6, and adams 7have either tested orare currently producing commercial qttys of oil,

these additional wells were drilled around copley 1 cluster, you should get the history of these wells , correlate them and draw your development process plan from the history of these already producing wells,as well as lesson learned it should give you an input into copley 1 development, the process asset which is the reservoir strategy which i believe has initially been laid out should give you guidance, follow the laid out procedure and guideline

since it is an anticline you should also factor horizontal drilling into your development plan.

just my 2 cents , but the information you gave is a limited to draw a real conclusive objective as per the reservoir strategy

@devmatic

My question bothers on the 8040 euros.
Is it from the 8040euro you paid those semester fees and the other payments you have to make or the money is just untouchable and you have to pay departmental fees and other fees from your personal purse
Please, reply?
Re: Subsea, Mud, Reservoir, Pipeline, Petroleum, Drilling Engineers & Supervisors Zone by devmantic(m): 11:09am On Nov 14, 2011
@ upengineer, it is from the 8040euros that u make all payments like school fees, accomodatn, cost of living etc.

Thanks for your response.
Since you have passed through the process, how much should i budget for the whole process including flight.

Then, is there any age restriction when applying

and what are my chances, i had the following grades: HND upper credit, Chemical Engineering and also BEng(2-2) grade in chemical Engineering and some safety and process related certifications. No working experience yet
Expecting your response
Re: Subsea, Mud, Reservoir, Pipeline, Petroleum, Drilling Engineers & Supervisors Zone by devmantic(m): 12:31am On Nov 16, 2011
@upengineer,

How much should i budget for the whole process including flight?
Just pay whatever the embassy restricts you to pay (I believe that amount should still be 8040euros but u can pay more than that if u like - I actually did that). Flight cost varies from 150,000 - 250,000 naira depending on the airline.

Then, is there any age restriction when applying?
Nah, There isn't any such thing as that. grin

and what are my chances, i had the following grades: HND upper credit, Chemical Engineering and also  BEng(2-2) grade in chemical Engineering and some safety and process related certifications. No working experience yet
Hmm, Well, I would advice u to first apply for the programme. Your application should include your certifications and any relevant software package u have used before. They cherish software gurus more than any other thing here. If u are shortlisted for the interview, then we can talk on strategies for the interview  wink
Nevertheless, apply on time (between jan 15 - march 15) or else, the competition for admission might just screen u out. Lastly, pray to Yahweh for guidance and favour. I hope i answered your question satisfactorily.

Hello everyone at home, my name is Matins, I had Bsc in Chemical Engineering from a well recognized university here in Nigeria in 2006 with 2.1, I also did Excecutive Master in Business Administration from a Nigeria University as well because I have phobia for financial management , I had been working for one Oil and gas servicing company with the hope of getting deep in oil and gas field. I intend to become a drilling and completion engineer, please I need your advice on how to achieve my goals.
