Hi Jukeblam, Congrats to you and your famiy, Please did you use only your PTE or with IELTS result, did they request for proof of fund,

Hello house,
This here is just another grant story!

Woke up this morning to the 'mysteriously exciting' sound of my phone alarm; after turning it off, I checked my emails and therein, lined one after another smiley smiley smiley, were 3 emails containing 189 visa grants for spouse, baby and I! Good start to the day for sure!

My timeline goes thus:

11/07/2015 - IELTS L/R/W/S: 9/9/7/7.5 10 points
22/02/2016 - PTE-A L/R/W/S: 90/87/90/89 20 points
07/03/2016 - EA Assessment submitted (Fastrack)
16/03/2016 - Positive assessment received
16/03/2016 - EOI lodged with 65 points
23/03/2016 - EOI Invite received
05/03/2016 - Medicals and PCC
17/04/2016 - Visa lodged
27/04/2016- CO Contact for transcripts and baby polio certificate
17/05/2016- Transcripts uploaded
19/05/2016- Grant!

With PTE-A score of 20 points, I applied without claiming work experience points.

Thanks to everyone on this thread who answered queries, dropped their 2cents et al. They were quite helpful!
And for those still waiting, you shall receive! [/quote]

Good day jukeblam,
Congrats on your grant, I'm happy to read it. This is the fastest I've read for a Nigerian.
Congrats once again.

Thanks! Actually, the fastest I read was for Johnsontade who had about 13 days or so.

Only after I read his, did I decide to up my language points by writing PTE-A (which thankfully I clinched in the first sitting), and not claim work experience points. Thanks to him for sharing, as well. Led me unto a shorter path.

It's highly likely that work experience verification would make an application take longer. I guess.

Please, can you expatriate on the PTE-A stuff. Does it mean I don't need the work experience if I can do well in this and it's like Nursing requests for IELTS alone.
Thanks while I wait

Congrats to you, please what is your strategy for PTE speaking, I have made two attempts and scored 53 and 57. Kindly help.
For speaking, I actually watched a few youtube videos and then googled tips for speaking. One particular tip I remember is not to pause talking for too long- just keep talking; the mic shuts off after a few seconds pause and then all you get recorded is your speech before the cutoff which might be inadequate.

Unfortunately, I didn't bookmark any of the sites or videos, I would have shared. Just search google, you should find tons of tips for each speaking aspect.

Did you speak with your normal Nigerian accent and did you take the test in Nigeria ( what center). I am beginning to think that my Nigerian accent is not favourable for the test, I might also try to register with your exam center.

Good evening everyone. I'm surprised at vetassess or maybe I am wrong about it however I submitted all my document to vetassess for advise on the 22nd of last month till now no news from them and they said the expected turn around is 20 working days. Should I send them an email or I should give them more time................How long will it take?
Please note, due to an unprecedented number of Advisory Service applications received, the expected turn-around time is currently 20 working days....... big brothers who have done this before should kindly share more light on this......

Just do a follow up call, you paid them money for the service and if they do not deliver within stipulated time, you have the right to call them.

I had to call them severally, before they gave me an outcome

Congratulations Jukeblam...

To set the record straight for all, Engineer Australia has a peculiar way of assessing engineers. They use CD-R template to assess your knowledge and skill in the occupation claimed. This makes it easy for people to use experience gained during IT or short employment to write a good CDR but other assessing authority don't use this style.

To avoid numerous and unanswered questions, it is advisable that you read the website of your assessing authority thoroughly for the requirements. I know that most require minimum of one year experience before you get positive assessment.

No further questions will be entertained with respect to this.

Bro if your planning to write pte end of June, its not possible to beat the July first deadline for 189, as average wait time for pet engineers is 4 to 6 weeks for invitation after submitting eoi. Other engineering like agric/environmental have reached their occupation ceilings. If I were you I will switch my attention to regional area in NSW as they still sponsor 489 for pet engr in two places last I checked. Pls do confirm. Another way to go about it is to make one of your episodes shitty and don't claim any experience in your CDR. That way you might be given engineering technologist upon positive assesment, which is still on the 189/190 list. So your call.

Bro I appreciate your idea but the info I got is that as long as I put up an application before the deadline, it will be valid. I intend to speak to a migration agent to confirm as I already have an appointment. I would appreciate any help in writing the CDR

As at last week, GTB charged 227 for $1AUD. Yes, you have insufficient funds by their rate.

Thanks all for this informative thread.

I want to ask how one could check the occupation ceiling for his/her prefer nominated occupation.

I understand that the chances of been invited after submitting an EOI depends on several things but one of it is the numbers of slots allocated to that occupation for that year and how many is left by the time u submit ur EOI.

I have several related occupation on the SOL list I can nominate, but I want to check the occupation ceiling on them before deciding which of them to nominate.

So, how can I check this? Thanks. @bellong @scrollout

Go to border.gov.au and navigate to the skill select page. A way to get there is by clicking on working visa n then u will see skill select there on the left pane. On the skill select page u will see occupation ceiling as one of the options there.

Spoke with my normal Nigerian accent oo. Exam venue was UKEAS Opebi- if it would help; the setup was quite ok with minimal noise distractions.
