Nigeria’s 36 states were offered yet another financial bailout by the Federal Government yesterday in a fresh bid to reflate the beleaguered economy. http://businessdayonline.com/2016/04/states-get-another-bailout-to-pay-workers-salaries/ |

Isn't Nigeria technically broke? On a serious note, FG should call a spade, a spade. In accounting, deferred payments such as tax and other payables are recognized as source of income. Hence, what FG gives to states is bail out phase 2. 13 Likes |

Giving states more bail out is like waste of resources. What this translate to is more cash in the hands of the few privilege politicians. The rate at which these funds are being diverted is alarming and federal government is not concerned. Look at osun state for instance, workers are still being owed up to six months while medical doctors have not collected salary since september, 2015. We need proactive government not these parasites we have on ground 20 Likes |

kinibigdeal: The funny thing about the comment above is that when you ask him what the government should do differently....or what the PDP owuld have done differently....there would be (for the most part) silence...then they repeat like a broken record their opinion of the current government's thinking process. Poor opposition. 33 Likes 2 Shares |

Are you a talented weeper? Do you know how to cry? This is an opportunity for you to cry your way into good money. An NGO is looking for people who can cry in other people's burial ceremonies. For normal crying - N2,500. For crying and singing - N3,500. For crying and scattering things - N5,000. For crying and rolling on the floor - N10,500. For crying and cursing people - N11,000. For crying and threatening to jump into the grave - N15,000. For crying and jumping into the grave - N20,000. For crying, jumping into the grave and grabbing the coffin - N25,000. For crying and entering into the coffin - N30,000. For entering the grave and refusing to come out... Can be negotiated with your family members. I hope the loan is owed to the federal government and not the banks or private bondholders because it will be morally wrong. Debts owed by states are sovereign debts and states are considered prime borrowers. By saying they can defer debt servicing, this is akin to a default , one not mutually agreed upon. This will ruin the credit rating of the borrower (this time the state) and make it much harder to borrow in future. If money is learnt, it will be at higher rates and not the prime rates they get now. What is needed now is bailout tied with conditions. It is wrong to bail without ensuring the borrower becomes solvent. The FG must compel the states to cut costs by sacking excess workers which is the primary reason for their rotten state. This will be unpopular and will be politically suicidal but there is no choice. The states are just living in denial by owing them perpetually. The unpaid salaries (which should be rightfully classified as debt) simply keeps piling up. Other cost cutting measures is pruning down the number of ministries, selloff of state owned companies, elimination of ghost workers etc. States must also ramp up their internally generated revenues so they won't be at the mercy of the allocations from the center. The FG soft touch is a byword for bankrupty. 9 Likes |

Regionalism makes better sense because the cost of governance leaves little room for developmental projects nor States motivated to harness their potentials. Most of the Governors are empty heads only waiting for monthly allocations to misappropriate. 6 Likes |

She emphasised that “it is not a bailout but a deferral, postponement of deductions, just to allow the states to have the cash that they need to meet their salary obligation”. |
