Religious Bodies Carrying Out Night Programmes In Residential Areas by vascey(m): 10:30pm On May 04, 2016
I just came back from watching City-Madrid match.
Now, it's been a long day and I want to sleep.
But this church around the corner is having a night program. Frankly their activities are affecting my ability to sleep.
Is it really right for the church to have these speakers that ensure the whole neighborhood hears their prayers and songs.
I mean this is a residential area. People are trying to sleep after a long day's work. To worsen it, there's been no light and obviously no fuel to power the generator. Inverter is also down so I am forced to open my windows. Right now, the sound of the church program is all I hear and the distraction is not helping my sleep.

Now is it fair for the church to do this? I'm a devout Christian, yet, I have the right to worship or not. The loudness of this program robs me of that. And that's not fair to me or other residents. Typically my neighbourhood is very quiet.

So my question is - does being a religious organization give one license to deprive others of their rest? If a night club did the same thing, would it be okay since we are all equal under the law? Does the right of the worshipper supercede mine as a resident? Is there no way for us to co-habit peacefully without interfering in each other's lives.

Just about time i was heatedly in contention over the kaduna reliigious bill, this new "minstry" opened up in my street.
I get to know the effect of unrestrained religious activities on the large populace. I had to apologise to el rufai, though with some reservations on licence to preach and its renewal, etc, which i still find unconstitutional.
Anyway, i and some neighbours had to meet the woman pastor in the ministry and we talked, she disconnected three big wharfadale speakers and used only one, stationed inside the church, and we had less noise.
We had intended to sue the church, the landlord and the local landlord's association for tort of nuisance and get them restrained with attendant damages, but we declined the move later, due to the approach of the woman pastor that day.
Even now, i just finished from a vigil, and i am happy we didnt use loudspeakers, but still communed with God effectively.

Wow Montaque that was amazing. I'd say the pastor is a reasonable lady and its great it was resolved amicably.

Perhaps, I can try this same approach if the situation persists. But knowing our ministers, most would probably go back home and pray for the death of those against their ministry- as in me.

Pastor Ibiyemo during the 5 nights of glory program told us about someone that said he was disturbing the neighbourhood and he prayed the person should die and the person died. Lol. I don't wanna die. Lol. Or even worse become the object of some die die die prayer.

On a more serious note, pastors and their congregation ought to show more responsibility to their host communities by ensuring they keep the sound level down. I wonder how people with infants deal with this.

As for El Rufai, I don't know the content of his bill but if it includes license to preach or not, then it is wrong.

Nigerian Christians most especially of the pentecostal stock are an unreasonable bunch of people.(The muslims are not exempted too) If they are not disturbing a residential neigbourhood in the middle of every night with loudspeakers meant for a rock and roll concert, they will be causing unnecessary heavy traffic during their conventions and crusades or baptising you with spit if you have once been unlucky (like me) to sit close to one of them in a bus.

On my street, Wednesdays and Fridays are always nightmares. These churches will be battling for ''the loudest' as if they are not preaching same message and yet when you peep inside you sometimes see only 10 to 20 people using speakers meant for like 500 people.

I wonder how these people will feel if a traditional worhsipper does his incantation every night using loudspeakers or an atheist preaching non existence of a god in residential neighbourhood every midnight.

The heads of these churches should learn to be considerate and possibly employ proper sound proofing techniques in their buildings.

Imagine! Rejoicing at someone's death! If we opened a thread and started pointing out how petty this ibiyemo just made the christian god look like and how condescending christians can be dem go say we don come again

Isnt that preposterous to pray for such a one to die, because he complained of the late night disturbance during ur vigils? The person died a natural death, i can say.
Even the day i recounted, one of the members, a lady too was threatening me with such, that i dont know the implication of what i am doing. I just laughed. We in africa had made religion anti-human instead of a thing to be gloried in. We no longer care what our neighbour feels about us and our actvities. You can imagine the mindset, when not less than 10 persons use the ground floor of a three storey building was used as a church with such big speakers and sound instrument, discomforting the whole building and the street, ie 10 persons that refuses to sleep and wants to deny sleep to upto 100 persons, old and young inclusive.
I can say its unreasonable because God made night for rest and day for work.
I will advice u meet them and sort it out amicably. Depending on the locality, Tell them we are all christians and wont mind a low sound.
