It should be " More power to your elbow."

Elbows*. It's correct. I haven't researched but I feel its origin is sometime around the industrial revolution - a well greased machine works tirelessly hence is a good trait replicable in humans.
Most of our teachers were half-baked graduates, if anything most of my most useful knowledge was learned on my own after school.

I stumbled on this post, one year after, and discovered that:

1. It never appeared on front page while pictures of nude "slay queens," half-naked men and women, sex and sexual matters, snakes and sorts always did!

2. Only about three persons commented!

What a world!

My contribution...

More power to your elbow is more appropriate. However, we have "elbow grease!"

More Grease to your elbow is correct.

It's an idiomatic expression.

The grease is the synovial fluid that lubricates every movable joint in the body.

So it's simply saying that you will not get arthritis grin as you keep doing your good work.

More grease to your elbow is the informal one and more power to your elbow is the formal one. Your boss is still correct maybe he was just trying to be informal with you.
