Can anyone pick glaring holes in this cock and bull story from Ribadu:

The former police officer wrote: "Whilst I was studying in Jos, an attempt was made on my life. One evening at about 6-6.30pm, I was driving alone on the road from Jos to Abuja in my car, which was a bulletproof vehicle. I noticed a little Japanese made of car following me.

"I pulled into a filling station and then pulled out again and noticed the same car, which had four (4) occupants, including the driver.

"The car pulled alongside me, the rear passenger window came down and one of the occupants aimed a pistol (firearm) at me and fired three (3) shots at my car. Fortunately, I was not hit and sped off."

He said he knew it was an assassination attempt on his life and decided to go back to Jos town, where he stayed for two or three hours, before returning to Abuja.

He continued: "I did not tell the police in Jos, because I believed (and still do) that they were behind the attempt on my life and when I say Police I mean the Inspector,

"If I went to any government agency, they would come under pressure if they helped me, people would lose their jobs.

"So I kept quiet and only told those close to me. The car still has the bullet marks."

He was shot at around 6.30pm

He did not report to Police; so no official record!

He decided to travel back to Abuja 2-hours after being shot at;which would be about 8:30pm.

Ummm, even superman would be so shaken that he would not attempt to make any such travel in day light talkless of dead-of-night in Nigeria within same day.

And why should people loose their job for official recording that a muder attept was made on Ribadu??

At best they would not act on it,

This guy is full of CRAP!!

If he believed the Jos police wanted him dead, travelling out of Jos as soon as possible makes sense.

C'mon now. Cut this guy some slack.

I do believe Ribadu is not a saint and if i were to be sincere  a part of me believe he deserves whatever he is going through at the moment.

You have to admit that almost all the security outfits/agencies in Nigeria are out to get him so reporting this or any other incident to the authorities would be/have been a mistake.

OP obviously has a gripe with the contents of the below Guardian newspaper article grin

How Inspector General Plotted My Assassination, By Ribadu
From Alifa Daniel (Asst. Political Editor, Abuja)

ALMOST a year after an alleged attempt on his life in Jos, former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has pointed accusing fingers at a former Inspector General General of Police (IGP).
He also repeated an allegation that a former Governor of one of the Niger Delta States had offered him a bribe of $15 million, which, he says, he collected but kept at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to be used as evidence against the man.

Ribadu, who fled the country in the wake of the manhunt for him, to answer to corrupt practices while he headed the anti-corruption agency, was in the country last week and paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Lagos lawyer and rights activist, Chief Ganiyu Oyesola Fawehinmi.

He had earlier been demoted and subsequently dismissed from the Police Force on account of alleged disobedience to lawful order. He is in court challenging all the official actions against him.

In a statement he made to the London Metropolitan Police (Metpol), and which transcript has found its way into Abuja, Ribadu said that his travails with the Nigeria Police and government began after he began the process of prosecuting the said former governor.

Ribadu also narrated how a top official of government in the Justice Department went to the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru to tell the authorities that the President had allegedly directed that he (Ribadu) should not be allowed to graduate and given his certificate.

Ribadu returned to Abuja after the course at NIPSS and recounted how another attempt was made on his life.

"I was followed,  from my house in Abuja and an effort was made to block my car, which I managed to avoid and get away," he said.

He disclosed to the London Police that after the second attempt on his life, he left the country for the United Kingdom in November 2008.

"I left because I would have been killed if I remained," he said.

According to him, the government allegedly began a rumour that he fled because he was wanted.

So, he returned in December and went to the EFCC headquarters, claiming that he did not see the EFCC boss, Mrs. Farida Waziri, on that visit but her aides said they had no question for him, but they would call him if she came.

"I remained in Abuja for about two (2) weeks to allow them time to contact me, but no one did. I left them (the EFCC) my telephone numbers, but remained in hiding whilst I was there. I returned to the United Kingdom in December 2009," he wrote.

Ribadu said he did not return to Nigeria since he left because he knew the charges brought against him were part of an effort to get him back to the country where a "further attempt would be made" on his life.

On the former governor who, he alleged, made financial overtures of $15 million to him, Ribadu said when he began investigating him, the man told him "that everybody was corrupt and that he was doing it because everybody else was doing it."

Ribadu admitted that he did not receive any direct pressure to stop the investigation of the former governor he described as "a likeable person," though they were neither friends nor enemies.

However, he said the former governor "was and remains a very powerful and influential figure in Nigeria, so much so that five (5) days after I had charged him in connection with our investigation, I was 'asked to go to school' and by that I mean I was taken off the case."

But aides of the former governor in Abuja pointed to a discrepancy in the story of how the alleged bribe of $15 million was given to Ribadu, stressing vaguely that the alleged bribery might not be true after all.

Though it was difficult to reach Ribadu over the veracity of the statement to the London Police, he alluded to it in a remark he made at the weekend to a newspaper in Lagos.

This was while denying allegations made by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa (SAN) that Ribadu was working against the interests of Nigeria or President Umaru Yar'Adua.

But Ribadu remarked: "I have never done any affidavit either in the UK or in Nigeria against the country. I challenge him (Aondoakaa) to produce the affidavit he was talking about.

"The only time I made a statement was when the Metropolitan Police invited me during their investigation of cases against (the former governor) and his associates for crimes they committed in the UK and other parts of the world."

Instead of always castigating Ribadu for what he did and did not do, why don't you bestow as much energy on the Kleptomaniacs he was after? Were you or your family exposed by Ribadu,  or are you just an enemy of progress?

Ribadu and his supporters and the story above are full of shit.  The story was talking about former governor and yet did not name the former governor, but went ahead to state that the aides to the governor refuted the $15M bribe allegation. So, who are these aides and which former governor are they representing? There are many Niger Delta former governors. Do people even read and believe this crap by the ribadu supporters writers association? Nonsense!!!

Before anyone should respond with further crap, let that person point to us any corrupt politician that ribadu convicted and jailed despite heading EFCC for over 4 years. What a record.

Even if he believed the IG was after his life, after serving for so many years in the NPF, it's impossible to believe that he had no friends in the Nigerian Police force. Why then was there no official report to the Police of the 'assassination attempt'?
More importantly, when announcing this to the press, why was there no proof whatsoever of the attempt on his life, including photos of the alleged 'bullet-riddled' car?

a favorite ploy of those fleeing african countries is to insist that their lives were in danger back home. I suspect this to be the case in this Ribadu's matter.

Do you live in Nigeria @ all? Do you read? We were all witnesses to the conviction of Tafa Balogun, Afolabi, etc. Remember the Siemens saga? Between 2003 & 07, there was no way Ribadu could prosecute the governors b/c they had immunity. By 2007, Aondoakaa started to frustrates his moves.

Pls read his testimony to the London Metro police. Now pls tell all readers on this forum how many corrupt politicians have been prosecuted between the AG and the EFCC chairman.

One of the biggest problems with Nigeria is the  lack or absence on anyone or body of reputable credibility. This includes the governments, agencies, the press and even foreign press correspondences like Sahara Reporters and Elendu reports. I don't even trust most of you on NL. Like the most of them your either have special interests, biased or plain bought over. even the foreign press, I have confirmed, are wrong most of the times on Nigeria due to the negative bias against nigeria.

Now tell me who are to for the the masses supposed to turn to for the truth. Who will help the people by at least exposing the truth. cry

What makes some people believe that wrong is right beats me. For the anti ribadu forces, may i ask you what you stand for and not what you are against? Forget about Ribadu for a moment and ask your self a soul-searching question- what do you stand for. Is Ibori and co Corrupt or not? Don't give me that crap of Ribadu is corrupt too cos it is not addressing the question.
It was widely reported in the dailies when this attempt was made on his life with the bullet riddled car shown to journalists and somebody here still think that he is lying because Ribadu did not do exactly what 'he' would have done.

I know it is part of the plan 'to so confuse corruption and anti-corruption that they can no more be differentiated from each other' -Ribadu's words. It is not working, we know that the best your people could come up with is just that he did not declare his assets, not even fund mismanagement! Thats how clean the guy is.

Meanwhile, we heard about that 2billion naira budet mapped out for media war and we seem to have beneficiaries in-house.

So you called that charade conviction and jailing? What again was the final outcome of the so called Siemens saga? Anyone convicted, anyone jailed over it by your ribadu? Did you even read my question very well before jumping to masturbate? Only in nigeria. How dumb you sound. I do not expect the new EFCC boss to convict and jail anyone because they are all from the same section of the country that are out and hell bent to ruin the country. It's their trade mark and trait.

You got it wrong.
If he believed the jos police wanted him dead, it would have been a suicide for any sensible person to attempt to travel by road out of Jos.
After going through such a situation, it doesn't make any sense to travel by road out of jos. Do you know how many police check points are there between Jos and Abuja?
The right thing to do is to create as much as possible attention, have a lot of people around you and fly out of Jos as soon as possible.

You just don't travel by road alone at night in Nigeria (btw 6pm and 8pm) when you know that you're wanted dead.
Ribadu's story makes no sense as usual.

Just a piece of advice for you. If Naija police declares you wanted, please run as far as your legs can carry you in the opposite direction.

Seriously though, I need some of us to visit a typical cell in Naija at your local police station and see what 'innocent' people are going through. I call them innocent because majority of them are just suspects and their case has not even been taken to court! If there's anywhere you don't wanna be, its a Nigerian cell.

@ post
I dont wanna sound like a pro Ribadu but since we are all basing our conclusions on the story we read from guardian, Im not sure I saw anywhere on the report that says it was a SUV? and Im not sure there's anything in the report that says it wasn't an official car?
Also on his movement from Jos to Abuja, I don't think we can pick holes on that. The guy has succesfully evaded Naija officials even coming down to Nigeria after he was declared wanted and leaving without anyone seeing him. That tells me simply that he knows his way around. If you are being hounded by assassins, one of the ways to avoid them is to make your movements irregular. Like a lot of you here, they wouldn't have expected him to leave JOS that night. He simply took them by surprise. Plus if people are after your life, would it not make sence for you to leave whereever they think you should be for somewhere else? no matter what time of the day it is?

I really don't understand why people are bashing Ribadu. But Im glad noone has accused him of stealing money. What we should expend our energy on are the people who are still there now stealing our money and destroying our Nation. Bashing Ribadu will only encourage this people and they will cnclude that Nigerians are very myopic.

1. It is clear this is not Ribadu Official CAR!

2. 90% of bullet-proof car used in Nigeria are SUV. It stand reason to believe this is SUV

3. Even if not SUV, bullet-proof car are not less than N20million naira.

Yup, I totally agree with you! Bode George should have been tried, same with Iyabo and Annenih and Mrs Goodluck and all the Bank Ceos who have been stealing our money. And while we are at it, Ribadu should have tried all ministry directors who add extra zeros to contracts and infalte costs of contracts and ministry workers too who collect bribe before you can see 'oga'. Infact, lecturers in my University should be tried too for collecting money from students for grades and the VCs and proffessors must not escape too.
Ah! come to think of it, the guy should have arrested me too cos I aint a saint too. I remember I gave bribe to a police officer some years back.

Mr Optimistic, can you tell us just ONE thing that is positive about your beloved country nigeria. If you can not, then shut up for once. Conviction is the hallmark? No wonder your country is the charade and comic country of the world. Low expectations. That's the reason you nigerians are grade less people. Sorry, we don't accept anything below the mark in Igboland. Conviction is not the hallmark, rather the hallmark should be Tafa Balogun or anyone else getting enough prison sentence in accordance with the degree of his or her  offence.
Don't ask me to compare anything to anyone, after all, the same awusas in power are the ones taking care of Lucky's case, so i don't expect any better from them cause they have never been known to perform better than they have been performing which is low.
