danieloy4:
I just want to give a word of encouragement to students who are searching for scholarships

Everything has to do with information. Many people are aware of these scholarships but don’t know how to apply. So they just go back to the school they finished from and life goes on. We don’t really research here for what will benefit us. Most of us youths pay for data every single month and at the end of the month, we have spent money but there’s nothing of value we have gotten from the money we have spent. There are lots of scholarships out there that fit different courses and degrees and a lot of people from Africa are winning them. So students should learn to make researches.

People must also be very confident in themselves. There are friends and family members who would try to discourage you saying all sorts of things like you couldn’t beat the competition and that the money you would spend on processing your application, sitting for the IELTS test, paying for courier services and all, would go to waste at the end of the day. There must be some effort coming from the student even if the scholarship is free.

Then you see that some people are so conscious of money. We want everything to be free of charge. There are alot colleagues who want the scholarships too but immediately they see any scholarship that requires them to take the English Proficiency test, they back off at once, no matter how easy the scholarship might be. Nothing is free in Freetown.

Also, students should be more flexible with their choices. Everybody is clamouring to have their Masters in the US, UK and Canada. The schools in those places are now too hard to get into. Students can choose other schools in other countries and still make a wise decision. And When you want to apply for your PhD, you will have greater opportunity to cross into any country you want because by then, you would have had the international exposure.

The truth is Africans are respected out there. The white people respect our brains because we are indeed very smart people. So we don’t have to undermine our talents and lower our expectations.

So make sure the information doesn't end up with you whether you're qualified or not, share with others that don't know how to get the informations about scholarships.

True tho.
Do u knw of any whatsapp group for this purpose? Kindly let me knw if u do bro . Thanks

Akoma Media Is Organising A Paid Fellowship Program For Writers

aKoma Media, in partnership with The MasterCard Foundation, is organising a paid fellowship program for talented African writers and storytellers. The programme is called Amplify and it’s launching in Kigali (Rwanda), Nairobi (Kenya), and Lagos (Nigeria) this September.

The entire point of Amplify is to develop young and dynamic writers into authors who will craft compelling stories about Africa. For 6 months, these young writers (between the ages of 21 and 34) will undergo instruction programs that will build their skills as storytellers and at the same time, fill a much-needed media and storytelling talent pipeline in Africa.

In the words of aKoma CEO and cofounder, Zain Verjee, “Amplify is a great platform to find and nurture talented Africans who want to create amazing content, acquire and develop creation skills, and distribute their work globally.” Seeing as it’s a paid fellowship, Amplify Fellows will receive a monthly stipend and digital hardware as part of their program benefits.

aKoma is an open source content platform and storytelling community where a combination of user-generated and original content about Africa and its diaspora are created, published and shared with the world. Cofounder Zain sees Amplify as a way to “develop an exclusive network of multimedia storytellers who will be able to tell universal stories about Africa, and armed with the skills to work for major media outlets, freelance, or start their own storytelling shops.”

Applications are open, and young writers who are looking for careers in media and content development are welcome to apply. So if you’re a writer in any of the available cities and you find this interesting. And if you’re not or you don’t, spread the word.

How to Write a Scholarship Application Cover Letter

When deciding who to grant a scholarship to, scholarship evaluation boards have a lot of information to take into consideration. In some cases, the decision will be based on academic excellence (high grades, language skills, good overall academic skills and record) or on economic factors (low income, family difficulties).

In many cases, you are required to attach a scholarship application cover letter, in which you should explain why you are applying for this specific scholarship and how it could help you achieve your education and career objectives. This is one of the best tools you can use to make your scholarship application a success, together with the correct submission of any other required documents. Here are some tips on how to write a compelling scholarship application cover letter.

1. Explain why you’re a good match for the scholarship
The scholarship application cover letter is an opportunity to outline your main strengths from an educational and professional perspective, your plans for future career growth, why you would be suitable for this scholarship, and how you would benefit if selected. Make sure you cover all of these points, using specific examples where possible.

2. Establish a formal tone, use a clear structure and check spellings
The cover letter should be written in a formal tone, and have a clear, concise, structured flow. Each applicant should also make sure to check for and correct any accidental spelling or grammar mistakes. To make sure you submit a successful cover letter, ask another person, with an objective eye, to read it before sending. This will minimize the risk of any spelling or grammatical errors, and can also help you eliminate any information that is unclear, redundant or irrelevant to what you are asking for.

3. Match your cover letter to the context
There are various situations of scholarship applications in which you would be requested to attach a cover letter. You may, at the same time, be applying for admission to an institution or a program. Or you may be requesting a grant or scholarship to cover tuition fees or other costs for a program you have already been admitted to.

If your letter is intended for the initial case, you should start with a formal address and greeting, followed by a short paragraph presenting your academic skills, achievements and strengths. The following paragraph should explain the reasons you would need a scholarship to fund your studies. The third paragraph should talk about how the specific program, course or project you are applying for will help you achieve your objectives, and how you can contribute during your studies. Do not forget to close with a formal, polite farewell.

If the letter is requesting funding for a program you have already been accepted to, there are a few aspects you should consider. The introduction should be similar to the structure above, emphasizing your academic skills. In the second paragraph you should emphasize your financial condition, and the reasons why you need the funding. In a third paragraph you can explain your interest in studying at that specific institution and how much you will be able to benefit from it.

In such cases, the institution may actually provide you with guidelines for the information to be included in the scholarship application cover letter, such as income data, career background etc.

To conclude the scholarship application cover letter is meant to highlight your strengths, academic skills and goals, and you should ensure you fully communicate all of these in order to ensure your success.

If you’re 18-25 and care about our planet’s future, you should be part of this. Send in your thoughts and they might send you to Brussels, Belgium to share them with 100 other bright young minds and leaders.

About the Summit

The Youth Ag-Summit is a week-long event that serves as a forum for young leaders to discuss opportunities, collaborate and find answers and solutions to the question “How do we feed a hungry planet?” The Summit is a unique event, which brings together talented young minds to explore and discuss solutions on global food challenges.

Essay Question

In the next 40 years, it is projected that the world population will grow from 7 to almost 10 billion. However, 1 billion people today still do not have enough safe and nutritious food to eat. Demand is rising while resources are dwindling. Solutions are strongly debated across rural, urban and international communities.

In September 2015, the world’s leaders came together to agree on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.

In the context of “Feeding a hungry planet” and using your own village, town, city or country as your point of reference, tell us on which SDGs youth can have the most impact in the next one to five years, both at a local and global level.

You should explain how working on these SDGs youth can bring real change to agricultural or food chain practices, or personal and community behaviors, that could help feed 10 billion and create a more sustainable local and global society.

Prize

The Youth Ag-Summit is not about winning a prize. It rather serves as an international forum where young people from all over the world can exchange and discuss their ideas about the challenges in agriculture.

You are invited to travel to Belgium from October 9-13, 2017 to gain valuable experience as well as an international network for the future. Your flight and transportation costs are covered by the Youth Ag-Summit organizers.

Eligibility

Young people (aged 18-25) with a passion for sustainable agriculture, food security and safety.
Your ability to demonstrate your original ideas and your passion will be the key selection criteria for the Youth Ag-Summit.
Essays of 1,500 words (maximum) are being accepted through January 13, 2017.
