Rather than appreciating this young Nigerian for sponsoring himself to Rio ahead of team Nairalander are still calling him names. He as already made me proud by qualifying for Rio 2016 games.#Badbellisadisease

It's quite heartbreaking that nobody is saying anything about the fact that the athletes are sponsoring themselves to this event. Funny enough, when they win medals and come back, they will be hosted to a "presidential dinner" and PMB's media house will make it look like it's his victory.
We have a sports minister that's always forming agile and up to date and yet his behaviour towards this Olympics is very disappointing. If it is to wear beret and meet with some cult boys in the name of dialogue with militants, he will carry first. This is the first time since I was born that the government is nonchalant about an even as big as olympics.

Of all the millions spent on Team Nigeria to London 2012, how many medals did they bring? Who was President in 2012? Abi you were a toddler then? angry
Always looking for excuses to vent here and last ignorance.

Personally, if you were born in Nigeria, raised there, and even live there, face it, there is nothing worth being proud of, neither worth representing the country for... Whatever you do, do for yourself, when you succeed, trust your new found home to lay a claim on you, and why not, since they provided you with the most basic enabling environment to compete favorably... Hilariously, at that point, Nigeria too, will show up like that irresponsible father who abandoned you as a child and now you've done good, wants to stake claim... In Nigeria, Government is just a cover for liars, thieves, mentally impoverished old men, to legitimately perpetrate the worst crimes... On a lighter note, I met Jon a few years ago and he is a brilliant brilliant man. He takes pride in the sport and is a really really cool guy... Good luck Jo

Being the first to reach Rio makes no significance....being the first to reach the finish line does it!

Lol. He's a Nigerian but of mixed race (what we usually call half-cast) -his mum is white...I learnt he was born in, and grew up in the UK. He also took part in the last olympics (London 2012) representing Nigeria.

The journey is easier from the land of those who use their head not their sentiment. But I think this is just using naija to raise his profile. If him weight reach why him no represent team GB where he was born. No hating just thinking aloud!!!!! Kudos though #teamJA#

Nigeria U23’s preparations for Friday's Rio 2016 Olympic clash against Japan have been disrupted after their trip to the Brazilian city was terminated.

The African U23 champions were initially due to leave Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon, but the players’ appeal over the size of the plane caused the trip to be cancelled, according to media officer Timi Ebikagboro.

The players and technical crew have returned to their hotel and will now depart for Brazil on Thursday at 7.30am after the federal government hired a Delta Airline flight, ‘an all VIP aircraft’ to make the team confortable.

hopefully they will be there today
