Armed Robbers Storm Lagos Airport, Shoot One by okeey(m): 10:51am On Sep 28, 2009 |
THERE was pandemonium at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammad Airport, on Friday, as a group of armed robbers did not only beat all security checks at the airport, but succeeded in robbing one of the bureau de change operators. According to an eyewitness account, the bureau de change operator, who was the son of a businessman based in Agege (names withheld), was said to have collected about N1 millon from a bank at Ikeja. Unknown to the victim, while he was heading back to the airport to take the money to the bureau de change, opposite Arik Air Corporate Headquarters at the airport, he was trailed by the robbers. The robbers, on getting to the AP filling station, very close to the police station, at the airport, opened fire with the aim of dispossessing the victim of the money. The gunshots from robbers, alerted the policemen who, at once, responded and in the process, the victim was shot by the robbers who eventually escaped. Throughout the period the gun duel lasted, activities around the local airport came to halt, as everyone ran for safety. As at the time of filing this report, the victim was said to be receiving treatment at the General Hospital, Ikeja. When the Nigerian Tribune called the airport police image maker, Anele Samuel, on phone, he confirmed the report, saying investigation was on to arrest the robbers. He, however, said that the over N1 million that was recovered from the victim was in the police custody until the investigations were concluded. http://www.tribune.com.ng/28092009/news/news10.html |
