I was just wondering about the ideal frequency of visiting your home and your spouse's home.
I spent very little time at home during my University days because I schooled quite far from home so I am used to visiting home only once or twice a year.
Right now, I live about 4-5 hours from my parents and I am not a fan of travelling on Nigerian roads so I still visit home only maybe twice a year.
My in-laws live about 2 hours away from us and my mother-in-law is always complaining that we dont visit often. We visit them maybe once in 2-3 months.
I am not comfortable with too frequent visits.
What do you guys think?

Visit your parents as often as you can while you still have them. They won't be hanging around forever, once or twice a year is very poor.

I agree with you they wont be around forever. My problem is I dislike travelling on Nigerian roads.Even 1 hour journeys can be quite tiring for me.
My mum visits from time to time anyway but I see my dad much less. We talk more on phone.

Bros no be my fault o, na work. Sometimes when I calculate how much it will take to travel to where they are, stay for some days and come back, it is enough to sustain them for three months so I just add a little to the money and send it to them.

Just do your best, number of times doesn't have to be fixed. Your wife can also visit without you if she wants to.

I had always wanted to do a thread on the need for children to spend more time with their parents while they are still alive.
The need is more so for those who have retired from work or are elderly and living in the village.
For these people, boredom may be a huge problem.

It is not enough to send upkeep money without being seen.
When you breeze in with bread and beverages and breeze out, that's not visiting.
You need to visit your parents at least every major festive period and spend days with them, as work allows.

Same goes for parents-in-laws. Go with family and spend days.
Wife can go alone or with the children if husband cannot make it.

I wish I had spent more time with my parents.
When I did, I ate and drank with them along with other kinsmen.
We shared stories and news about politics, the economy, and other updates.

There was this woman whose son was always reluctant coming home for Christmas...
Village was agog with returnees but her son hadn't come nor sent any message.
She sent a message to her son stating that she was not interested in his rice, onions, and bread...
That she just wanted to see him, cook for him, and rejoice with him like other families.

Do it while you still have the chance.
When they are gone, you will be surprised the huge feeling of "I didn't get enough of them" that will engulf you.
My thoughts though.
