Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health. Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases, particularly heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis.

Obesity is most commonly caused by a combination of excessive food intake, lack of physical activity, and genetic susceptibility. A few cases are caused primarily by genes, endocrine disorders, medications, or mental illness. Evidence to support the view that obese people eat little yet gain weight due to a slow metabolism is not generally supported. On average, obese people have a greater energy expenditure than their thin counterparts due to the energy required to maintain an increased body mass.

*. Coronary Heart Disease.

As your body mass index rises, so does your risk for coronary heart disease (CHD). CHD is a condition in which a waxy substance called plaque (plak) builds up inside the coronary arteries. These arteries supply oxygen-rich blood to your heart.

Plaque can narrow or block the coronary arteries and reduce blood flow to the heart muscle. This can cause angina (an-JI-nuh or AN-juh-nuh) or a heart attack. (Angina is chest pain or discomfort.).

Obesity also can lead to heart failure. This is a serious condition in which your heart can't pump enough blood to meet your body's needs.

*. High Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. If this pressure rises and stays high over time, it can damage the body in many ways.

Your chances of having high blood pressure are greater if you're overweight or obese.

*. Stroke

Being overweight or obese can lead to a buildup of plaque in your arteries. Eventually, an area of plaque can rupture, causing a blood clot to form.

If the clot is close to your brain, it can block the flow of blood and oxygen to your brain and cause a stroke. The risk of having a stroke rises as Body Mass Index increases.

*. Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease in which the body's blood glucose, or blood sugar, level is too high. Normally, the body breaks down food into glucose and then carries it to cells throughout the body. The cells use a hormone called insulin to turn the glucose into energy.

In type 2 diabetes, the body's cells don't use insulin properly. At first, the body reacts by making more insulin. Over time, however, the body can't make enough insulin to control its blood sugar level.

Diabetes is a leading cause of early death, Coronary Heart Disease, stroke, kidney disease, and blindness. Most people who have type 2 diabetes are overweight.

*. Reproductive Problems

Obesity can cause menstrual issues and infertility in women.

*. Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which you have one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep.

A person who has sleep apnea may have more fat stored around the neck. This can narrow the airway, making it hard to breathe.

*. Cancer

Being overweight or obese raises your risk for colon, breast, endometrial, and gallbladder cancers.

*. Gallstones

Gallstones are hard pieces of stone-like material that form in the gallbladder. They're mostly made of cholesterol. Gallstones can cause stomach or back pain.

People who are overweight or obese are at increased risk of having gallstones. Also, being overweight may result in an enlarged gallbladder that doesn't work well.

A chilling documentary showing the post mortem of a 17 stone woman has revealed the full effects of obesity on the human body.

The body used in the documentary is that of a woman from Long Beach, California who died of heart failure and donated her body to medical science. Pathologists slicing open the women and examining her skin, heart, liver, lungs and kidneys.

Fat: 'I needed a lot more strength to cut through the tissue which kind of bloomed out in neon yellow,' said a pathologist who cut open the woman's skin. As your fat levels rise, it expands under the skin and can weave between the organs, reducing their blood and oxygen supply and altering your hormone balance.

‘If you have fat around your tummy, it’s more dangerous than having it around your thighs, arms and bottom, said one of the pathologists.

Heart.

After cutting the deceased woman open they then went onto extract the heart which had a number of striking problems. Instead of the tight, muscular ball it should be, it is more like a droopy bag a clear indication she died of heart failure, which was brought on by high blood pressure triggered by her weight.

'The heart feels baggy, when you pick up the heart of someone fit, it would be tight and hard like picking up a piece of steak, but this is like more like a bag.'

I once observed an operation for hynear and when they cut the man open there was so much fat. It took a while before the doctors go to where they needed to work on.

Fat is silly.

weight.

'At 449 grams, it's a heavy heart, despite her weight this woman is quite a petite person and should have a heart of 225 grams so this is much heavier.'

'This is sort of heart you would expect in someone who has heart failure due to high blood pressure'

'This heart has gone from a thick muscle to a paper bag that is not able to pump blood around the body,'

*. The Lungs.

A set of a lungs in a fit, healthy person of normal weight will look like dry, pink sponges.

However, as soon as Dr Osborn removed the lungs from the woman’s body, he found they were heavily waterlogged, a symptom that often goes hand-in-hand with heart failure.

‘The liquid dripping out of her lungs shows she was suffering a very bad pulmonary oedema, where fluid builds because the heart is not strong enough to pump it through the body efficiently,’ he says.

*. Kidney.

As Dr Osborn explains: ‘The kidneys act like micro-filters, filtering the blood and producing the urine.

'If you are obese some fat will end up in your kidneys and they will have to work harder' one of the doctors said. Having fatty kidneys can cause the organ to fail.

*. The Liver.

The liver is one of the organs that gives the biggest clues to a person’s diet and lifestyle.
A healthy liver is deep red in colour and firm, with a smooth surface. However, with obesity it can change in many ways by becoming enlarged, softer or scarred throughout.

This woman’s liver was a third bigger than it should have been a sign of fatty liver disease, which is linked to being overweight.

You're not far from the truth. Some people have the obesity in their genes.

Explorer, i am giving you 12 lbs of pure lean muscles for this post of yours. Fats in itself is not dangerous because we all need fats to survive. The main thing is the location of the fats. Having large quantity of visceral fats can be very deadly. I see people saying i am not fat and i can eat anything i want. I pity you. Ever heard of skinny fats. A person might have a thin body frame but inside na fat full am.

A woman having fats in her thighs, hips and buttocks without the "drum" belly is far healthier than a skinny woman with a "drum" belly.

For guys, abeg una dey fall my hand. I am tired of seeing young guys(below 40) looking like a pregnant jagaban. Abeg go hard on your body and pump those muscles out. Kill the fats and eat healthy.
U need to join the club of MOI(MEN OF IRON).

Forget about the "gene" thing. If you do the right thing, when i mean right thing, i am talking about eating healthy meals, exercising well, drinking enough water, eating lots of fruits and vegetables as well as resting, then obesity will be far from you. I have seen countless of skinny children who grew up to be obesed young adults. There is no excuse for one to be obese.

Yes, but they can still help themselves by watching their meals and visiting the gym like twice a week.

They have it in their genes fine, but if you meet some them on the dining table, you will be scared.

Take them out, they will order 2 plates of fried rice, 2plates of jollof, full chicken, and a bottle of Chamdor.

Dont forget her take home pack o, 2 doughnuts, two chicken pie & 2meat pie with Ice cream biggest size.

Nice post explorers. Let me chip something about type II diabetes.

For the cell to break down sugar, it must be sensitive to insulin to trigger sugar intake. But in obese people, etopic fat covers some of the receptors and make them less sensitive to insulin. So the cell can't take in sugar to break it down, so the sugar is left in the blood stream increasing the blood sugar level.

But not every fat person is obese. We consider the height, age and weigth.
