MAIDUGURI—NO fewer than 162 widows of slain Civilian JTF members in Borno State, yesterday, received food items and set of wrappers donated by chairman of State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Engineer Ahmed Satomi.

This is even as SEMA pledged to sponsor education of their children from primary school to tertiary education level. The distribution of the relief items, which took place at the premises of SEMA office in Maiduguri, was well attended by hundreds of serving Civilian JTF members.

Engineer Satomi, while addressing the widows, said two bags of rice, sugar and beans, in addition to a set of wrappers were to be given to each household, as they (widows) lost their bread winners while complementing the effort of the military in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents. He said: “I want to sympathise with you as widows; your husbands, who died in the cause of fighting insurgents, have paid a supreme price to our dear state and the North-East in general.

“We are donating these items to cushion your immediate hardship, and to boost the morale of those who were in the forefront in the fight against remnants of Boko Haram sect.”

One of the widows, who gave her name as Mrs. Halima Mohammed, said she lost her husband in one of the Boko Haram attacks around Sambisa Forest, when their operational vehicle went over landmines last year. She said since then life had been difficult for her, but thanked SEMA and Borno State government for giving her a sense of belonging by periodically donating relief items to cater for her family. She, therefore, urged wives of serving Civilian JTF members to always pray and support their husbands in the fight against insurgents.
