Just move on with your life girl.

You seem to want to contact this man desperately so that you can gain that closure ? What is his name ? Are you obsessed with this man ?

What does divorcing him have to do with obsession and contacting him. I am seriously wanting to know if I need to divorce him because I may be thinking about marriage in the states.

I get what you are saying. I have moved on. I just want to know that if I marry it will be legal. I dont want any issues to arrive associated with the registry wedding I had with him in Nigeria.

If you don't have a body to show, nothing is legal with the fraud marriage. He only wanted his green card.

Fell free to talk about it if you want. Its part of your healing process.

SOME Nigerian men are very desperate and think that American girls are stupid and cheap.

I think I am halfway thru that process. Now I am just angry and wish I could shut his whole little plot down and save others from his drama.
Re: How Do I Go About Divorce? by posakosa(m): 12:15pm On Nov 01, 2009
I have NO SYMPATHY for Nigerian men. Call immigration and email them his pictures and send them the emails that he sent to you. You can also send it to the FBI.

SOME desperate Nigerian men are players who think that American WOMEN are FOOLS. Looking thru your posts, it is apparent that you fell HARD for a SCAMMER.

With that information, he may not be able to enter the US but he can carry his rubbish elsewhere----maybe to another country.

Thank goodness that you found out about his SCAM much earlier. You would have ended up paying for HIS WIFE'S Tickets and given him a green card. He would have drained your pocket.

Every marriage conducted in a Marriage Registry is legal whether for green card or not!.

You cannot conduct another marriage if you are still legally married. It's called Bigamy and punishable under the laws of US if it blows into the open.

You don't have to return to Nigeria to divorce him, you can file for divorce in US and that will give you a better chance if he is stuck in Nigeria and cannot attend the hearings or has no representation. But you're not free of him believe me until you do that. He is also not free of you.

I don't know how a SHAM marriage in Nigeria is LEGAL in the U.S. ?

The U.S. has no public record of foreign marriages, unless you file taxes/or conduct another marriage here in the U.S.

TRUST ME filing for divorce here in the U.S. is a WASTE of your precious time.
Re: How Do I Go About Divorce? by posakosa(m): 12:36pm On Nov 01, 2009
Why do you think this man has been shopping around for a girl in the U.S., if such marriage was recognized, why is he STILL SHOPPING around for a green card? Immigration would have been up to him if such marriage was recognized.

LOSTGIRL, ABEGGI, MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE.

I don't know about the fell hard part, I liked him because my crazy azz knew he was a scammer and when I called him on it and told him I knew we became fast friends.I think it was a relief to him to have someone in his life he didnt have to lie too. We both needed that. We clicked on another level. Don't misunderstand, I am no scammer. I didn't approve of how he made his money. that is why we lived totally seperate lives. All the drama got started when his family got involved. I've already looked into turning him over to Immigration and the FBI. But something keeps holding me back. I think it is because in the beginning we were the coolest. Both living our individual lives yet coming together in a way no one could understand. Then came his nosey azz family, the lies started up and it spiraled out of control.

As for paying for tickets and crap. NEVER. THE ONLY MONEY I SPENT WAS FOR MY TICKET OVER. THAT IS IT! LOL! I knew what he did. Although, that didn't stop him from trying. It always gave us a good laugh after he would try. Ha ha ha

The US State Department lists the documents that it accepts to prove certain events abroad, such as marriages, on its website. These are also the documents that US immigration accepts. Here is what it says about Nigerian marriage certificates:

Marriage Certificates

Available from local government bodies if the couple performed civil marriage at the Marriage Registry. Traditional marriages may also be recorded with the local government and a certificate of marriage issued. Places of worship that are registered with the Nigerian Government may also issue marriage certificates for ceremonies performed there. It is obligatory that every registrar and religious minister furnish such documents to the Lagos Marriage Registry, but some fail to do so. Records are generally available through the local government where the marriage took place. The Marriage Registry in Lagos has marriage records dating back to 1802. They are filed by year and place of marriage and can be obtained by writing to the Marriage Registry, 19 Kingsway Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. Since both parties to the marriage technically must be physically present at the same location with witnesses to sign certain marriage documents, proxy marriages have ceased to be valid but still occur.

And as SHAM as the marriage may seem, it was made legal by the fact it was performed at a Registry.
Re: How Do I Go About Divorce? by posakosa(m): 1:03pm On Nov 01, 2009
SHAM MARRIAGE IN NIGERIA recognized in the U.S. LMAO!

@ OP, where in Nigeria did your marriage take place ? How many witnesses were there ? Do you have the certificate ?

If the U.S. had a record do you know how many Nigerians marry American wives just to get Green card and when they do, they bring their REAL wives into the US. and settle down with them ?

Pls don't give a poster a headache with your rubbish information.

Witness or no witness has there ever been a marriage conducted in a Registry without a certificate?

Loads of them. But the so called new American wives are not psychic, so they could never have know these guys had wives hidden in Nigeria. And the many Nigerians who do this know that they have to divorce one after some years before they could marry another or file for their real wives and take them to US. The US have a record all right, and to think you live in the US!!!

How will you divorce someone whom never married you ?

I dont think all marriages for green card are auto illegal or sham. This leady went to the registry of her volition and signed in front of witnesses, so she is legally married to this bloke. It is the same registry marriages that US/UK and others accept to have one's spouse over, so it is legal unless he paid this lady and there is evidence of the sham/scam.

I understand the American lady because bigamy is technically not allowed - a crime? (maybe).

The thing to do is to start a divorce process in the US and he will not be there to contest it, then you will be in the clear. That way, you will cover yourself. If he is without trace for lets say 2 years, then it will be an easy process. Talk to a solicitor or advice bureau or women refuge/well being thingy
Re: How Do I Go About Divorce? by posakosa(m): 7:52pm On Nov 01, 2009
America has no record of the Nigerian marriage. It done and over. He doesn't even know where she lives.
Re: How Do I Go About Divorce? by chrisj2(m): 8:03pm On Nov 01, 2009
So poster, how did you meet this fella. And why come to Nigeria to get married. Is it really a sham marriage? If it is then the two of you are equally guilty. Best to move on.
Re: How Do I Go About Divorce? by posakosa(m): 8:06pm On Nov 01, 2009
Its a sham marriage and I do think that she should move on. However, I suspect that she may still be in love with this guy and hence wants to contact him; therefore wants to seek divorce; but HE WAS NEVER interested in her.

This is not her first thread about this matter.
