If feelers coming from the prestigious University of Lagos are anything to go by, a former medical student of the University of Ilorin, Ismaila Mansur, has emerged the 2015/2016 best graduating student of Mass Communication of the “University of First Choice”. Ismaila Mansur, a.k.a Alfa Esin (in Agbada attire) receiving the UNILAG Mass Communication Students’ Association ‘Scholar of the Year Award’ from the pupolar OAP, Teju BabyFace recently… Investigation by The Renaissance revealed that the 2015/16 final result as approved by the Senate of the institution and released on Thursday, revealed that Mansur, a famously social media enthusiast, finished with a CGPA of 4.59 points. All efforts to speak with the scholar proved abortive as at the time of filing this report. Likewise, there is no official release yet from the University. However, sources who spoke with our correspondent under the condition of anonymity said the formal announcement will be made at the January 24/25, 2017 convocation ceremonies of the University. “This is according to the University calendar as approved by Senate”, the source said. -What we know about Alfa Esin * Due to pressure from home, Alfa Esin was forced to study Medicine in the University of Ilorin for 10 years, 4 of which were failed, repeating years. * At final year of medical school, he absconded and went on to write preliminary exams that gained him admission into the University of Lagos to study Mass Communication, his first love. * Alfa Esin is Lead at Tact Consulting, Fellow, Osaze Osifo Initiative and two-time Editor-in-Chief of Unilag Sun, the University of Lagos Convocation Newspaper. Also read From The Mimbar: Violence Against Women * He is single but in a serious relationship.

Discovering purpose; vital key to fulfilling Destiny!

Having dropped petroleum engineering to be an entrepreneur is still a battle between me and my parents, but I'm more satisfied with my progress so far!

It just shows that we as Nigerians are the best of hypocrites. We don't mind our businesses, we bring people down too quickly, we don't allow people make their own choices, but we just love to kill people's morale.....

Anyway, my brother is now a first class graduate, haters can go to Ikeja electric transformer and give it a good kiss......

The story was very contradictory. He had spent ten years in medical school and his experience was marked with series of failures and frustrations as he struggled to satisfy his dad who wanted him to be a doctor. Ten years as an undergraduate is no joke but then the story said that even his lecturers were begging him to come and write his final exams.

The story get too much k leg. Ten years as an undergraduate, series of failures and at the bottom of the class, lecturers were begging him to come and write exams!!!

There is something they are not telling us. It's his choice to ditch medicine but it wasn't done willingly in my opinion. Who said a medical doctor can't practice journalism?

Tell us another story jare. I think he found his bearing in mass comm. Fifth Mbbs would've subjected him to another cycle of frustrations and failures going by the story, then he would maybe graduate and probably give someone laxative for paracetamol. He has done well.

Kudos to him for being so organised and balanced by lifting himself when everyone thought he was down and out. Having a first class is not the end of the journey. His struggle continues but hopefully, he has found his bearing and I hope it will be success, progress and happiness for him.
