I have 3 different friends in 3 different state universities and they tell me about how they have to sort before passing courses in their schools.What type of graduates are these schools grooming?

I think it's a problem in government schools, made rampant by a combination of several factors like quality of lecturers, teaching facilities, number of students, laziness on the part of students and something I just call Nigerian factor.

The last point is something we notice in almost every Nigerian affair. That something seems to eternally frustrate anyone trying to do the right thing, making sure nothing works in our system.

Shows how crappy they are. And op you've not been to a federal university, that's where the foundation is and the headquarters inclusive. This thing called corruption is endemic fighting is like fighting the urge to poo it'll definitely come out.

its not only in state uni that sorting is taking place it is common thing in almost tertiary institution in naija

Op., you asked a valid question but lots of Nig folks here are of the generation of " Lecturers sorters and blockers", not merit believing hence, only a few will answer you.
Most states schools were created for political reasons and admissions are generally based on connections, blocking, sorting and money power. So, if these brought you in, survival is also by sorting.
Lots of young Nig folks think education is about certificates and such states school accentuates that terrible mentality. All you get from such system is "Beans graduates " nothing in their brain.

Its just so annoying. And the students have accepted it as a norm

it is done in both state and federal uni... When we talk of the difficulty in passing a course... State suffers the most... U'll go to some federal uni and find a lecturer that have been taking a course for 15-20 years... Now please tell me which new question do u think he will set in his exam?.. .
Sorting is done in both state and federal universities because it depends on the individual!

Too much nonsense happening in state school. Sorting, selling of handouts (which is the foundation of corruption itself), sexual harrassments etc. It's not like they dont happen in some federal universities but they are done codedly because the consequensces seem moredrastic for the lecturers.
A strong factor that contributes is the calibre of students admitted. The admission process is too porous for most state school so they end up admitting half-baked students.
Also, the schools themselves run on the exorbitant fees gotten from students. The number of students in a particular class can run up to hundreds. How will lecturers monitor them?

Just so many factors contribute to it. That said, you always get what you want from a system. I know some gradutaes from state schools who would outshine federal school graduates anyday anytime.

This happens a lot because students of this generation are now too lazy in anything that is a form of knowledge and they tend to see anything educative as a time killer not knowing that the real time and brain killer is that everyday television which these generations tend to be “ENSLAVED” to.
This now causes lack of preparation of exam because there was no knowledge stored up for any form of test/examination, and due to the taught that the brain cannot yield anything the students in question now starts thinking of sorting their way out

You are correct. My friend paid our hod 250k to clear about 22courses he failed,and guess what?he graduated with second class upper that I used 6years to struggle for.it happens in federal institutions as well,but common in state universities.

Because the lecturers are lowly paid and owed for several months.
If we don't want the lecturers to do sorting, we should ensure that our governors pay them well and promptly instead of hailing them for buying roasted corn by the roadside.
