My Gtbank Account Was Hacked. Need Advice by Eze2000(m): 3:38pm On Feb 25, 2017
Hello,
Yesterday, I took a late evening nap after a hectic work day only to wake up and find a bank alert telling me thanking me for doing an $27 transaction online. I was really shocked because I thought like many others that Gtbank MasterCard do not work online again.

Even as I was thinking how this could be, another alert came for $40. Having read on Nairaland here how online fraudsters hit you at the end of the week when banks are closed and you can't do a thing but watch your money fizzle out till Monday morning, I suddenly realized I was a victim of a well planned online fraud.

Calls to customer care didn't go though so I tried both SMS and email cancellation of the card immediately which didn't work fast enough, needed 24 hours to take effect. By this morning, I was staring at two more online purchases totaling nearly $30, both, and I ran all the way to the bank where got hold of an off-duty official to do something about it. Took a long call to their headquarters before the card was effectively blocked.

I have lost over 140k including d $97 now but what i want to know is this.

Checking my account balance, i discovered some of the money is still there but included in the available balance. You know....

'account balance....N210,000
avaliable balance...N160,453

Clearly, my money has not been paid out yet by the bank. I guess they too are waiting for Monday. How do I stop this payment and samve my money? That's what is bothering me now.

Please advice me. I plan to hit the bank at 6 am on Monday sharp. But i need to know what to do.

Modified.
Gtbank MasterCard works on international transactions for real.

Your account has been debited already n the money paid out. since you have stopped the card good. There is nothing the bank can do since it is a card transaction meaning your card has been compromised. Dont forget it is only you and you alone that knows your PIN, right how come somebody nows has your card details and your PIN?

GTB works...but I suppose the monthly limit is still 100usd.

Online market places like Aliexpress do not verify your pin before paying out...too bad if you ask me.

@OP, on going open another account not linked to any atm to keep your money otherwise keep it in a fix deposit account.

It doesn't work anymore. I bank with GTB and tried using my card to pay for Nigerian visa and it was declined.

It still works...I made a payment of about 11usd to Aliexpress some 3 or 4 days back.

You might be attempting to pay greater than the daily or monthly limit.

I had a similar experience last week. Someone used my card to pay for Facebook Ad twice within 4 days. I had to go to the bank to block the card. Nobody hacked your account. The person just got hold of your card's 16 digit no. That's all one needs to do an online transaction. It could be your carelessness or from the bank.

firstly, this is my secondary account bank alerts was off until recently due to gtbank high messaging costs. Money could have been moved without my knowledge as far back as December.. if not that I began using it actively recently, I never would have known until it was empty.

its too complex and bank is not open yet.

To get more info on Monday.

You were correct. it was other card and not the account. I got one transaction alert this afternoon, $2. The bank blocked it. but the interesting thing is all this transactions was done with a website domain name provider....meaning a blog builder is buying domains and title for blogs or website built for his client.
I did one business months ago here on Nairaland with a webmaster when building my blog. I was a novice then and I let him see my card as we bought domain for my blog.

Using an international domain provider will also boost your SEO and he'll you to rank easily. My site is hosted by them and I have never had an issue with their services. [/quote]

Hell

I'm giving him a chance to clear himself before I repot him to the police alone with his phone number
