Hi Jane cheesy

Don't be fooled by any products who claims to make your haur curl. The thing is those products all work the same with a minimal difference. All they can do is capture the already existing curls.
If your hair is very moisturised and is a 4a/4b hair type, it is going to curl If it doesn't curl, then that's probably because it's 4c but you can make it curly yourself. I don't know how long your hair is but you can try doing finger coils, it takes time but will last you 1-2 weeks. If it's long enough to do twists out then you can try it too.

Here's a video

Besides there's sooooooo much you can do with 4c hair. It's the most unique and the 1 which stands out the most.

There's so much you can do with 4c hair? Really? Since when? tongue
There isn't much you can do with 4c hair; I have 4c hair, I should know, lol, well, if you want to count the time I spend on detangling and unknotting undecided. The only good thing I can think of right now is that I think my hair will lock quickly. When I used to do 2-strand twists and leave them for two weeks, sometimes it was be hard to undo the twists from the ends due to knots that formed. I now know a trick to prevent those knots and no longer get them but based on my past experiences alone, I think my hair will loc quickly, which is a good think, b/c getting your hair to get that that stage where it has loc'ed can be the hardest part of the locing process, but I think mine will lock quickly.

They really are thick. I think she must've started with 2-strand twists or comb coils, or did she say in the video? Only skimmed thru it, lol. They look nice but they're too big for my liking. Those aren't the type of locs I want. I want sisterlocks kiss but it's really hard finding the right loctician to do them. I really want to get them done this month, please wish me luck in finding the right person to do them. cry

NosoChic:
My fear about locs is finding the right loctitian. ...I'm presently in ibadan and I've seen lots of wannabe dreads grin
Me too oo. The struggle is real, lol.

What's the difference between sister locks and normal locks?

What's the difference between sister locks and normal locks?
There're differences with cost (sisterlocs are expensive; lockticians charge a lot for them, like $600+), time (sisterlocks can take 12+ hours to do, depending on the hair), maintenance, etc.

-Looks-wise, normal locs are typically fatter and not always uniform but sisterlocs are slimmer and all the locs look the same, which makes them look better, imo. With sisterlocks you can have up to 400+ locs on your head, which makes your hair look fuller and denser. Personally, I like the look of sisterlocks the best, while some people prefer the look of normal locs.

Did you know about sisterlocks before, Jigba? Are you looking to loc your hair too?

Glad to meet another natural who also wants to loc her hair. What's your motivation? Why do you want locs, if you don't mind my asking? Yes, you're right. Locs can be styled in different ways. You can twist them for a twist out, put them in a bun when you've gotten the length, colour them and much more.

Nice to meet you too. Hope I'm not late for the hair party. I naturally love dreads, I'm tired of making hair breakage every time.

DIY deep conditioner

Ingredients:

Honey
Oil (according to your hair porosity. You can also use different type of oils/mixture of oils)

Depending on how long and thick your hair is, pour some amount of oil into a bowl

Then add some honey until it's thick (make sure the honey is not more than the oil. It should just be enough to make it thick)

Mix together and apply on freshly washed hair

You can also mix it with a deep conditioner you bought to have more from the deep conditioner and also more moisture

If you want to use solid oils like coconut or shea butter, melt before use

Benefits

Honey is a humectant. It helps to retain moisture. It's also an emollient, which softens, smoothes and reduces frizz

Oils help moisturise and seal

Whaaat? Toothpaste to loc hair? That is unheard of. Toothpaste is not a method for loc'ing hair; never has been and never will be. smiley

That is ludicrous. You do not need any products to loc your hair! None! Certainly not toothpaste, stout, foam, etc. What the heck? lol. Those products will ruin and damage your hair.

Nikita, Lovelygurl, can y'all fill me in? Do locticians in Nigeria use these products to loc hair? shocked shocked
