Greetings everyone,

GMAT is a test written by applicants to business schools for management courses. These courses include (but not limited) to MBA, Masters in Finance, Masters in Accounting, Masters in Supply Chain Management, Masters in Business Intelligence/Business Analytics/Big Data etc. I'm taking the test in June and I desire to create this thread as a meeting point for all test takers where we can share materials, interact and learn different strategies for acing the test. I officially welcome all of you on board.

Thanks

GMAT application fee costs $250.
When you multiply by #400, its #100k
But theres somewhere in Lagos you can register cheaper
Thats why I registered. I registered in November for 65k. I dont know the price now but I know it will be cheaper than 100k

Thanks but I want to write GRE now. The schools I'm applying to accept either GMAT or GRE. I cannot waste $250 on GMAT the second time. The registration fees was above N130K when I registered because of the high exchange rate and I also rescheduled for $50 and despite all these ended up with a very disappointing score. I don't have the morale to write it again. I will rather write GRE instead. I wish you success.

Okay, thanks

hi prospective Gmat takers,

first of all goodluck on ur studies and preparations. I have written the Gmat three times and only finally got my desired score on the third try. my score on my third try was 70 points better than on my first try. not an easy feat to accomplish. i recently interviewed with a phd program and i am hoping to be contacted soon. i scored a 710 by way on my third try.

advice:quant section-math
1. focus on not failing any easy questions (especially quant section-math) because the penalty is higher for failing an easy question than a hard one. spend more time on getting the easy questions right. know that in reality no question is really truly easy as they all have some form of tricks to them. you should try to understand every topic on the quant section at least on a basic level.

2. take your time to digest what the question is actually telling you to solve. understand the language Gmat uses in setting questions. (download manhattan series at www.bookfi.net)

3. understand that data sufficiency questions are of two types: value questions and yes/no questions. understanding the difference is crucial.

4. the gmat is not a test of knowledge but a decision making test. there is a blog post by a manhattan tutor that explains this concept quite aptly. basically, dont waste time on losers and focus on winners. losers being difficult questions and winners being easy questions. guess and move on. see point number 1 again.

5. take as many practice tests as possible to build your stamina and give you conviction that guessing on difficult questions and moving on is actually the way to go.
-manhattan gives a free practice test. i took the test twice. the questions are not representative of what you'll see on the main exam but they will help in building your stamina and giving you conviction.
-veritas prep also offers one free practice test. i paid for 6 additional veritas test (i got the tests at a discount). the test are similar to manhattan's but not as high quality.
-gmat club test: if you haven't joined gmat club, pls do. the math test where most representative of what i saw on test day especially the number properties type questions. i did not pay for the gmat club test, but got access for three days during a thanksgiving promo November last year. if i ever choose to write the gmat again, i will most certainly purchase gmat club tests.
-gmat prep test- the two free test are essential to your preparation. take them as many times as you can. they however will not aid in building your stamina and giving you conviction as you would become familiar with the questions.

ps
i personally struggled with my timing on my first two tries. if you have no such issue, then you can take your time on solving all the questions. if you find yourself finishing the quant sections with ease during the practice test, you have no reason to take my advice on guessing on difficult questions.

advice for verbal section (english)
1. focus on your weakness during study. i hated the sentence correction questions, so i spent a lot of time studying and learning its intricacies.

2. know the different types of critical reasoning questions and how to solve each of them: i believe there are 10 in total. download the manhattan series books as i earlier stated. the books are quite old but are still tremendously helpful.

3. learn strategies on tackling reading comprehension problems. use manhattan series.

other tips:
1. rest well before the exam. the exam is three and a half hours in total.
2. take food with high sugar content with you to center to eat. be it fruits, biscuit, soft drinks, juice, whatever, just make sure you have something that would give you energy quickly during the test.
3. take all breaks during the test and eat at all breaks during the test.
4. get the real gmat books to also study with.

goodluck once again.
