Yoruba Language Classes offered at Abibitumi Kasa Afrikan Language Institute focus on students' conversational abilities and creativity as well as providing the students with a survey of Yoruba poetry, conversations, proverbs etc. In this way, the student is able to familiarize herself or himself with the Yoruba worldview while becoming a transmitter of the Yoruba worldview.

As an elder once told me (in KiKongo) "Yoruba i mfinda" or Yoruba is like a forest. I have found this to be true. Within the language there is so much to learn and to discover. The language is a starting point of understanding the Yoruba (Afrikan worldview) and all of its various interrelated manifestations including the spirituality, political systems, healing systems a.b.b.l. Knowing the Yoruba language opens up a whole new world that theretofore may be opaque to one who may just hear a string of sounds.

In Yoruba classes at Abibitumi Kasa, we give attention to a thorough explanation of every word, idiom and proverb. Literal translations and figurative interpretations are given so that we may know what we are saying and the specific context in which to deploy our knowledge.
