It is so baaad ehn...but Naijas should first carry out an introspection. It started with the "selectrd rulers". They practically rob the citizens blind. How does one explain how civil servant working in pension board could make away with BILLIONS and it caught, get only 6-9 months in prison..dazzal....look at Saraki, Dino, Dasuki, Igbinedion, Ibori, even Tinubu, past and present governors, senators, local government chairmen,....look at all the political leaders who are now political god father's... Rogues, murderers, Looters and criminals. They breed Nigerian youths to become Political thugs who does their bidding. And those that could not stand murder, become internet fraudsters, claiming alliance to one politician or the other.

And the Religious bodies are equally in cahoots with them. These fuckers rob the nation, pay huge tithes and consultation fees to their prophets, pastors, sheiks, Alfas, native doctor's. And these are same people who would demand their congragrats FAST and PRAY for the success of their corrupt clients, politicians.

Check the spate of looting and gross anomalies in the education sector. Read how Vce chancellor's run universities and approve arbitrary levies and fees.

Same applies to Judiciary, Health, Defense and Security (Police),etc. Corruption have become a reality and culture in the country.

The rate and degree we have soiled our images home and abroad is terrible. I know many of my countrymen and women who gladly brandish foreign passports and identity now, not wanting to be associated with Nigeria, as the name irks suspicion.

Nigerians destroyed Nigeria and now the world is tired of Nigerians. Nobody wants them around for too long. The good ones are encouraged to swap allegiance and identity.its that bad.

The fish rots from the head.!!!.
So long we continue granting support to criminals and thugs as leaders.Cowing before them and their equally corrupt inhuman police system, DSS, SSS, NPF, the corruption disease will keep spreading and breeding youths who in turn become militants, kidnappers, ritualists, Internet fraudsters, human traffickers, Drug barons and dealers, name the vice.

Nigeria needs to be wiped out,the only way to to achieve that is to divide it and each to a reform with new constitutions enacted with a strong principles and class.

The worst thing here is that Nigeria is so bad to the extent that Nigerians in Nigeria can't see it anymore,it's like someone living in a dirty/smelly house for so long,at a point they get so use to it to the extent that it'll only take an outsider to point it out that your house dirty.

Take a person building house while living abroad for example, his own blood person collude with the builder to rip his own blood person off.

Nigeria is dysfunctional.

It still doesn't change the fact that millions of Nigerians are dishonest from the poor carpenter to the big men in Abuja. Even the so-called Men of God.

This particular person; the second commenter nailed it too too much.

I could remember seeing almost everybody struggling for first class like idiots while I was in sch, just to get good jobs or other rubbish motives. Even though trying to attain good academic records is not bad, but it leads people who are supposed to change this nation to accept every rubbish that they are told, word for word; without asking questions. I mean it.

I could remember seeing a Facebook post of a best graduating student of bells university saying that her first class result has just increased her bride price, (and perhaps the financial/material demands of her potential suitor).

Nobody stops by at zebra crossings, not even religious people or perhaps in religious places. We must think they are for decoration.

I once saw a case when a "big" man was wrongly parked in front of peoples entrance and the security man there (an elderly man) came out and begged him to kindly move a bit forward. Instead of obeying or apologizing, he came out and started threatening to beat up the security man! I couldn't but stop immediately (even though I was in a hurry), and interfere. I insisted that the man was wrong and should move forward immediately. Guess what, other Nigerians stopped by and started begging the wrong man (who was already threatening hailstones and brimstone) to just pity the old man that was right. I happily involved a police I saw passing by, thinking he will easily end the argument by arresting the miscreant who had already attacked one of the individuals like myself that spoke in favor of the truth and of the old man as at then. Still guess, they police came and joined other stupid Nigerians to start begging the "big man" to pity us and not cause trouble as he was threatening to cause. What a country! I still believe we will get better with my likes! #LetsKeepHoping

If I type all I have in mind, some "patriotic" Nigerians would want to hunt me down and behead me.

I'm pleasantly surprised that majority of the respondents here made constructive statements, like noting the generalizations but still acknowledging that the writeup was as bloody accurate as it gets.

@fratermathy, they weren't lieing now. A foreigner doesn't have to live in Nigeria to meet honest Nigerians. In their respective countries, Nigerians run deadly criminal rings and this is the bummer, they don't get to see as many honest Nigerians to cancel out the bad eggs.

Every nation has it's awful reputation. Americans are arrogant, Chinese don't have manners, Russians are ruthless, Israelis are cunning, Canadians are misers. The issue with Nigeria is that unlike those countries, we have nothing to cancel out our awful reputation. Absolutely nothing.

Going with my examples above, Americans are industrious and innovative, the country is the global leader, Chinese are hardworking and make something out of nothing, the country is a superpower, Russians are unrivaled in brilliant ingenuity, they are a superpower, Israelis are crazy effective, Canadians are unbelievably polite and ordered. Look at those countries and see how majority abide by simple traffic rules and it is a complete antithesis to what Nigerians are.

And I'm saying this as a Nigerian. I don't have to live in America, China, Russia, Isreal, Canada to make these postulations. Now what does a Foreigner think about Nigeria without having to visit? Even when they visit, what would they see?

As someone said earlier, most of the so-called honest Nigerians are honest because they haven't had the opportunity to be dishonest. And more importantly, most are dishonest but don't realize it. Collecting money to vote, giving bribes for a policeman to look the other way, inflating price of things unnecessarily are all signs of dishonesty. But because most of us are so brutally dishonest (as the article suggests), we actually think only advance-fee fraud, stealing, embezzlement are dishonest actions. We have been so conditioned to dishonesty, that many of us fail to draw the line between honesty and dishonesty.

you are very right am a Nigerian tooand 90 percent of my friends are in Ghana looking for who to scam online, some even pray to God to bring maga (client) their way. at first it was guys that normally involve in yahoo yahoo, but this days u see girls posting fake pics online looking 4 who to defraud. the painful part of this scenario is that the society at large is not even discouraging the trend
Some months back, I snooped into one lady's facebook account because, I helped her to reactivate her account back. I got the shocker of my life, she is also into Internet scamming. I intercepted her conversations with her brother several times and some guys she helps by talking to their clients. She and her brother are also using voodoo, their parent are in support of their shady activities. If I want to finish both of them, I will just send some screenshots of their conversation to EFCC.

Charity begins at home. If you ask me go to Job/Vacancies section in this forum to see how some evil elements are scamming graduates due to the high unemployment rate.

It's far fetched and runs so deep in the system that market women ex tort customers by inflating price of commodities, policemen have become laughing stock in public by forcefully taking bribe from commuters, politicians are having a field day in corruption malpractice by diverting funds to their pockets, corporate entities illegally taxing people/hoarding forex for personal gain, etc which has led to criminal activities on national and international level such as drug trafficking, Internet scam, prostitution and others.

A yoruba adage says that "Gbogbo wa lo le ti ilu ba da" which means Everybody is thief when there is no law against such act.

Having mentioned this, we have patriotic Nigerians making the nation proud but the whites are good at pointing derogatory side of the country hence exaggerate it to completely ruin the already damaged reputation.

@ishilove I thought I was the only one who noticed the Nairobi part. The poor guy probably thinks Nairobi is in Nigeria and all Africans are Nigerians. The same way Joe Biden and several other Americans think Africa is a country. Now,would it be out of place to generalize and say all Americans are illiterate, simply because I met some who don't know their geography well enough? Since we are all free to generalize,we might as well start from there. Note well:he made a few valid points. But the generalization was awful.
True, he made some thought provoking points, but they were lost in the distraction of the very terrible generalisation and racist overtones of the article.

I don't care about the whites!!! It was your statement about there being hundreds of honest Nigerians to every fraudster which is an exaggeration that got my attention. Just this week alone, I have had to deal with three different dishonest electricians. The first was on Sunday. I lost my cool with the third one this morning. All just to fix a faulty ac. I never had this experience while in the US or even in Anguilla which is also full of black people of African descent. I am not trying to take sides, though.

You have a point, many Nigerians have turned evil no thanks to our corrupt government officials who have looted the national treasury which resulted in a nation with impoverished masses.

We once had high moral values but due to poverty a lot of good people have compromised especially the youth who want to enjoy all the good things of life without working hard, even hard work these days don't guarantee success in this part of the world.

So sad but there still a good number of Nigerians, I know because am one.

Generalizing the whole Nigerians as criminals is totally wrong. There are good people also in Nigeria.
Nigerians are good, great and talented people respite our lassie affair attitude towards our country yet we still give our best in times of need.

Every successful person in Nigeria is a criminal because they will not let you succeed if you don't soil your hands. It's terrible! That's why good people can't go into politics, either you join them or they kill you off . The only difference it's their are criminals with conscience and ones without conscience, The ones with pen n the ones with guns , the ones with juju and the ones with bible etc. which one are you ? Then back to the whites, 99% of them are perverts ,scammers , robbers etc but let's face their perversion . Keeping people or blood relations in dungeons n have babies with their blood , raping kids (which nigerias have learnt now ) . Let's discuss oyibo perversions.

So the only thing you could decipher from that write up is hacking? The write up is talking about the general state of moral decadence that has become the grain of being a Nigerian ...You work with ethical hackers yet your thinking is very shallow like the article says ...We are talking about the dishonest shop keeper , the dishonest pastor, the dishonest tither that has come to church to scam God ...Take it or leave it Nigerians are scum ..I am a Nigerian who currently lives in Nigeria but I dread trying to have any interaction with them everyday except it's highly necessary...Imagine just last week a 5 year old child tried to scam when I tried to buy some stuff from his mums store , the urchin inflated the stuff by 20 naira and even tried to give me a reason for the price hike till his mum came and blew his cover ..

It's greed and materialism that drives a lot of this criminals into internet fraud, don't defend such rubbish. Imagine a parent in Edo state saying he's proud of his son just because he bought him some wine and clothes from yahoo Yahoo Money.
