African Nations, Why Are They So Corrupt, and how to fight it? Your Thoughts. by CyrusTheGreat: 12:26pm On Jun 06, 2017
It's not news to many people that a lot of African nations are neck-deep in the quicksand of corruption, fraud and unrest. The police forces in almost every West African nation are severely understaffed and are infamous for their brutality. Crime is constant and common, and not just crimes like robbery - there are major crimes in economy, industry, business and government. The Democratic Republic of the Congo's government and military leaders have just been sanctioned and banned from travel by the EU and US for their involvement in crimes against humanity and violent persecution of political opposition, journalists and human rights groups. In the Congo corruption is so entrenched that there are over 13 different words for corruption and bribery in the Congolese French dialect, and people only enter into the government so that they can make money for themselves or their immediate family and be in a position of power .. Nigeria's government is infamous for it's insane level of corruption in government and private sectors. ranking 136th out of 168 countries in public sector corruption according to Transparency International.

To quote the World Entourage magazine on Naija's wealth,

Nigeria is one of the most privileged countries of the world when you come to rank countries by the natural and human resources endowments available to it. Nigeria is matchless in her ranking in the whole of Africa when it comes to natural and human resource endowments. Not even South Africa which is the leading economy today can match her. Nigeria has awesome and stupendous natural resources endowments that one may be tempted to liken God to be partial to her.

However, Nigeria has, over the years failed to translate this grand opportunity to development, opportunities and empowerment for her teeming population of 160 million (UNFPA estimate 2011, the current population has risen to 180 million).

Unarguably the reason for this is the abyssal failure of Nigeria's leadership and the institutionalisation of corruption as a way of life and hottest public brand.
What do you think are the primary problems facing the fight against corruption in Nigeria, and what do you think can be done to stop it?

Please share your thoughts and opinions.
