The University of Arts, Science and Technology, Igbere Abia State is now waiting for the inspection visit of the officials of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to enable the institution obtain its provisional license and commence operation.

Registrar of the  university, Dr. Victor Ike Oye, disclosed this while conducting the deputy Governor of Abia State, Comrade Chris Akomas, and his entourage round the completed facilities, during an unscheduled visit to the site, saying that every facility was ready for the smooth take off of the University.

He said that the final visit of the NUC for provisional license would enable the private university initiated by the former governor of Abia state, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, commence advertisement of vacancies for employment followed by admission of students.

The Deputy Governor, Comrade Chris Akomas described the facilities at the proposed University of Arts, Science and Technology as very comparable to any university of international standard noting that when fully operational, the proposed institution will attract people from outside the shores of Abia and Nigeria in general because of its conducive and comfortable academic environment.

While commending the University's board of governors, planners and executors of the project for translating the dream into reality, the deputy governor appealed to the NUC to hasten up and come for a final inspection of facilities on ground at the proposed University for full academic session to commence without delay.

He also commended Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu for his vision and comprehensive passion for the wellbeing of the people, not just for physical development, but ensuring development of intellectual and human capacity.

The facilities inspected included 15 blocks of air-conditioned class rooms hooked to the internet, 3 Laboratories, Cafeteria, Auditorium with theatre facilities, 18 Lecturers' offices, E-Library, Administrative block, ICT Centre, Landscaped lawns and premises, as well as two different Satellite Systems.

IBB established a university
Obasanjo established a university
Atiku established a university
Nnamani (ex Gov) did same
Orji Kalu has just done same
On face value this sounds grand
But, is this the best way to pay back for stolen monies?
Are these universities tuition-free?

Don't be surprised if none of their kids go to the same University that their father set up; they are all in US/UK and Ghana/Togo.

What of Abia State University , Did the Id.iot Kalu make the University up to International Standard,,,,,,,,,,am looking forward toward a Day when a Government will emerge that will seize all this University and turn it to extension of the Univeristy in the same state .

This People are not Building for the Coming Generations.

God Pun_ish Kalu,

I would rather they built industries, factories, refineries, power plants and other heavy engineering & technology utilisation schemes than mere money making avenues.

The only thing I dislike about this is that the school was not built for the average Nigerian student but, hell, this is business. ** saunters off thread, thinking what learning in an air-conditioned lecture room looks like**

God Pun_ish Kalu,

U beat me to that; me too, and I can't wait to see the day. Btw, these so called "exquisite" varsity as someone called it, may not even pass the standard of a mere High or Junior High/Middle school in the US or UK; not to talk of a University. One thing that really bothers me is that must it take these Naija Presidents and Governors to leave office before they build institutions like that?
Re: Ex-abia Gov Sets Up Varsity by An0nimus: 2:27pm On Jan 25, 2010
Wait till you hear what the tuition fee's like.na to pack load go papa house go start business.
Re: Ex-abia Gov Sets Up Varsity by boyt1: 2:27pm On Jan 25, 2010
not only the  US/UK standard that matters here, let all our leaders present/past please use their LOOTED wealth for their citizens, at lease a step forward, even a pure water plant to give jobs to youths Will do. say no to oversea dumping of huge sums.
Re: Ex-abia Gov Sets Up Varsity by gerona: 2:28pm On Jan 25, 2010
THIS IS JUST ANOTHER SUBTLE ATTEMPT AT DESTROYING WHAT IS LEFT OF OUR GOVERNMENT OWNED UNIVERSITIES.
WHY NOT CHANNEL THE MONEY INTO RENOVATING GOVERNMENT UNIVERSITIES IN THE STATE.

UNIBEN FOR LIFE.

This is just part of more than 6.6 Billion Naira this young man stole from Abia State Government fund. Today the poor state is left so impoverished, even the state University is dying fast and the Deputy Govrnor I am sure would not even have any business visiting the poor stat university instead would go to throw accolade for that of his paymaster. And yet after all these massive looting in the state OUK is not ashamed to begin to brandish own university. Well, in Nigeria we love thieves and hail them, extol them and call them 'our man'. Orji is our man! I pray and hope some day too I will get there and have my own share of this loot since justice never catches up with a looter in Naija instead they grow bigger and richer! Nonsense!!!
Re: Ex-abia Gov Sets Up Varsity by Gentlebabs(m): 3:07pm On Jan 25, 2010
I know of a wise man who said “Without purpose, nothing should be done”. I really hope the purpose behind the setting up of the University is to improve the quality of learning in our nation. Especially to Abia citizens,

Guys which ever way u look at this,i feel its better for Kalu to have invested his money in Nigeria instead of laundering it abroad.By investing in 9ja he is creating employment & at the same time bringing development to the community where these projects are cited.Kalu is a biz man & has a conglomerate that is into shipping, banking, contruction and transportation. In this way he is creating employment for thousands of Nigerian youths.
Re: Ex-abia Gov Sets Up Varsity by Amjustme: 3:49pm On Jan 25, 2010
at least lets luk at d gud side cos no matter how we lament efcc is not threatening him n d money is not coming back 2 u.

May earthquake of the haiti caliber

Re: Ex-abia Gov Sets Up Varsity by naijaswag1: 4:18pm On Jan 25, 2010
Let all the looters invest in Nigeria and get amnesty for corruption. They did it in Pakistan,if we try it in Nigeria we will see more than 1000 companies and universities spring up in less than 1 year.
Re: Ex-abia Gov Sets Up Varsity by NosaHenry(m): 4:31pm On Jan 25, 2010
Kalu has always be a man of vision and i know the standard of the university will become a standard for others to follow.
Though he is not generally liked, but the fact is, he is a renounced entrepreneur that has created jobs for thousands of Nigerians. Keep it up Kalu and congrat on your new accomplishment.

All those evil Universities that were established with stolen funds should all be shutdown by EFCC.I strongly believe that if EFCC could seize cars of fraudulent politicians then should also seize this schools as the funds were stolen from the govt coffers. This means that any student that attend such school would have mental problems of our proprietor looted and we must find a better avenue to loot more.So help us God!!!
