For most lecturing jobs, numerous copies of application letter, CV, credentials, etc are usually required to be submitted, for instance, 15 or 20 copies! I have always wondered why. Could someone please explain the rationale behind the submission of multiple copies?

It is usually because a lot of interviewers will be in attendance and everyone of them must have a copy.
