TWO PEOPLE have been seriously injured and 13 others hurt as lightning struck a tent during a music festival in France.

The lightning struck a tent at the Vieux Canal festival in the northeast town of Azerailles, injuring 15 people

Those seriously injured are understood to be a woman in her 60s and a 44-year-old man.

The victims were "directly hit by the lightning and suffered burns", the local council said.

Lightning struck a big tent located near a large tree under which festival goers had taken refuge.

Those injured received first aid from the festival's emergency centre before being taken to hospitals in the area.

Two children aged 10 were also taken to hospital after suffering shock.

All Saturday evening concerts have since been cancelled.
