Flogging is part of the teaching and learning process.

It is not fright nor fear to run away, keep quiet or cry at the sight of wicked men, its a run against the pain from wickedness! It is because we hate these holder of cane! Period

It is legal, in my place that is, but that legality of hurting people just because you were annoy is full of folly, stupidity and wickedness!

While such teachers were young and in School, were they not flogged for the same reason which they grew up to begin flogging another pupils/student in this days? Can they even reason, that God need their MERCIES, LOVE, FORGIVENESS, PATIENCE AND PERSERVERANCE? They call themselves teachers but instead of using the tongue for decipline, the powers on the height of faith for putting manners of social-studies, of civic-education into these children they resort to the last justice of the jungle! They resort to crudity forgeting they are Gods worshipers.

We await the last day!

May God not judge these, but see, God is the judge!

It is not right to flog a child in school these days. But look at the crop of children we are producing now. No discipline atall, a child could talk when two elders are discussing. Back then, My papa go tie your hand join ur leg grin

That is for a father, not a stranger who hardly knew my worth, my deformity, my lack, my powers! Discipline at home, which is loosed this days, is the epi-centre by which God creat us on our destinies in life. But, for a teacher who had a cane in her mouth to bring out a physical cane to bring causes on her back because, he/she whom he/she is flogging, in pain would not hessitate to cause that herring teacher!
There now, God is the flogger in nature, fathers/mothers are the decipliners in physical, teachers are the lecturers or innoculator of knowledges, and menders of idea's.

There is nothing thought by a noicy teachers which we cannot teach ourselves by reading books at home!

Africa, lets a r i s e...!

It's called corporal punishment and it's legal while the student is a minor. Dis is because a minor is deemed to be under guardianship of parenting and such patent or guardian has the right to apply such punishment which includes corporal punishment as is reasonable and wat is reasonable depends on the physical or health makeup of the child. This right of the parent/guardian to apply such punishment is presumed to be delegated to a teacher, except in situations wr the parent or guardian expressly forbids it and for good reasons. Thus, it is not applicable to someone above 18, as such person except for the purposes of sponsorship, is considered independent. Hence higher institutions shld not apply it and if they do, na gbege the lecturer don carry for head be dat cheesy.
It shld be noted that once the corporal punishment becomes unreasonable or excessive, it becomes battery. Furthermore, a male teacher should not apply corporal punishment on a female child, due to the difference in strength. The use of corporal punishment has been banned or outlawed in other saner climes (but their children don Yeye finish ) and it's considered expressly as battery.
The code of conduct for teachers is also a good and more recent recourse for regulating corporal punishment.

I don't know if it's legal or not but I personally don't support it. Disciplining a child is not just about beating them because you are frustrated or to show seniority, it should be done with intention and communication with the child - you are getting your behind whooped because you did xyz, do you understand why xyz is wrong, do you know if you do xyz you will get your behind whooped again, etc. Then a show of love to reassure the child, that you're not there to hurt them but to make them do better. No teacher gets paid enough to do all this, my child, my responsibility to discipline. Add to the fact that a lot of teachers in Nigeria are frustrated (thank you underpaying government), and it's a recipe for disaster. Your child's cane will be extra because their parents have money. Don't touch my child. If a school feels a child's behavior is unacceptable then expel the child but don't discipline other people's kids. If they can't teach without cane then all of them need to go back to school to learn.

shut up dere you parents dat dont have time for your children u will dump dem dem in d hands of your teachers since you have paid school fees you dont give a damn if ur child become a miscreant you will now check where it all went wrong.

All the things u explained are not the fault of the child but the parents who failed to train them properly.

All of my kids wake up by 5am. Brush their teeth bath dress up. Comb their hair ON THEIR OWN!
my eldest son is 11. As soon as it's 6 in the evening when the gen comes on he irons his uniform for the next sch day

Flogging itself has nothing to do with good upbringing _that's to the best of my knowledge as a child who was never flogged, an ex-teacher and a parent.

I don't know if it's LEGAL. It's not allowed in some schools. These days, lots of private schools don't allow it. I never flogged my students, it's not in my hand you'll die. I give punishments (kneel down and likes) or work on their psychology via advices, the later was more effective.

The remaining part of your post are just semantics.

Yesterday, 19th Sep. Class teacher wanted to flog my daughter, age 5 in my presence for not reminding her mother about the money for biro she (teacher) gave my daughter the previous day when she (my daughter) couldn't find her biro. I told her to hold on, that may be the fault was with her mother and not her (my daughter). That happened around 2pm when I went to the school to bring her younger sister home. The one I'm talking about would still do after school hours lesson.
Only for my daughter to come home around 4pm and tell me that she had been twice flogged during the school hours.
Firstly by her class teacher for not doing assignment she gave them orally (to find out the meaning of COMPULSORY), that was according to the class teacher when I asked this morning.
Secondly by the husband of the proprietress, for letting her backpack hooked the writing board (they claimed that writing board fell).
If I had not interfered, she would have been flogged the third time in a day!
The same teacher collected her biscuit money, N20 to pay for the biro she told me about. The teacher didn't tell me this yesterday. My daughter told me when she came back from the school. Of course, I confronted the teacher, she told me different narration. She claimed she collected N10 for rubber band and returned N10 to her. My daughter wouldn't confirm nor deny collecting money in front of her teacher. You know now, teachers are little gods to pupils. The teacher lied.
I took my time to lecture her the effects of flogging pupils in learning environments. It is counter productive. It is archaic and not for modern method of learning.
It makes pupils hate school, adults and learning.
I still get to lecture the "proprietor" tomorrow.
My wife wanted me to take them to another school this morning based on my previous findings about the new school and what we discussed yesterday concerning the latest incident and the ones in the past. She came home with high body temperature yesterday and woke up this morning with the same high temperature. May be it was because of beating or malaria, I don't know. Now, she's taking anti malaria drug and paracetamol.
But I changed my mind this morning, still want to observe and give the school a little time to adjust.

the response i'm getting from those of you that they beat like animals shows that it wasn't effective. it's hard to accept that you were not brought up properly. if cane was your food, one or more adults let you down because it should not take treating a human being like a goat to get them to act right. that whole country is full of people that received too much cane and not enough sense. yes, western countries are lacking in the moral department but for goodness sake, at least the society works - healthcare, electricity, good roads, etc shame on you guys for being proud of something that hasn't benefited u. all of this cane and many years later, you people are still struggling with malaria and access to clean water.

In as much as you have trained and disciplined your children but there must be times they will misbehave so in such situation the teacher should clap and applaud them for their misbehavior.

Nope. The teacher should discipline without violence!

Detention. Extra academic work clean up etc!
That was how I was educated in schools.
That's what's is been done to my kids when they mess up in school.

No teacher has the right to hit my child. I won't take it!

You should also know that your child has no right two misbehave in front of any teacher despite several corrections.

No teacher will also take it. If your child keeps misbehaving despite several corrections. The teacher will have to flog him or her for them to learn the hard way.

I thank God you are not and will never be my child's teacher.
In my children's school flogging or any sort of physical abuse is strictly prohibited.
The children are very orderly and produce exceptional results.
If any child misbehaves they are disciplined with a NON VIOLENT method!
I was not flogged as a child by my teachers and I turned out to be a decent quite successful respectful individual.
Why in God's name will I allow someone flog my child??
Like I said before, NO TEACHER CAN FLOG MY CHILDREN!
