Traditional wedding actually is the main and original wedding ceremony for any Igbo man or even African man. I have nothing against Churches, my fiancee takes me to church from time to time but she fully understands my positions on those concerns.

As an Igbo man i will wed like an Igbo man. In her Father's compound receiving the full blessing of her Fathers and Umunna, my umunna too and the entire village with Oji and palm wine for the prayer.

Some get married in the church because they dont want to be odd or inferior, some get married in the registry since they are comfortable there. Marrying in the church isn't the issue but what happens after the wedding? Can withstand trials, temptations of life?

The word any Igbo man or African man is too generalistic .not all Igbo or African men value traditional wedding

Any Igbo or African man cannot deny the fact that Traditional marriage is the original marriage rites of our people and that can never change. The type of wedding you may also value here is also another form of traditional wedding only that it belongs to the english.

So you may carry other traditions for head like gala, that is no problem you are free to but the fact remains and never changes that Igbo traditional wedding is the original wedding ceremony or rites of the Igbo people - and that's the point

The word "any" is the bone of contention. Traditional wedding is good but trying to be general in your assertion isn't true. Not all Igbos value traditional or white wedding.

You are atheist but you believe in the traditional prayers.

Do I need to be Igbo to know their traditional rites? I have many of them who don't value traditional wedding talkless of white wedding. Many of them don't believe in culture as they see it as old fashion

I feel the court wedding is more recognized under the constitution as they are many instances where the woman builds a life with her husband only to lose everything to the family due to "culture and tradition"

In the court wedding the rights of the woman and kids are more protected

Well i wasn't really talking about the most recognised under the constitution - If i recall my social studies right, the three are equally recognised.

But my point is about; Originality to Africans.

Nothing more

yes you need to be Igbo to understand. We value traditional marriage so much that it ordinary performing the rites in your place of residence instead of village can cause problems btw your umunna not to talk of not doing it at all.

you know nothing jon snow wink
