The results of academy where people pass jamb and waec easily with big time cheating is telling on the student because there is no way person will write and pass waec and jamb himself and get withdrawn.

UI uses point system to admit students, ie the cumulation of WAEC and JAMB score. The two major exams students cheat very well to pass especially WAEC. I don't understand why a student who gained admission into the Faculty of Technology, Dentistry, Clinical Sciences, Pharmacy and Law should have a GPA less than 1.0 in just the first semester in school. Chai!

In the past, students in those faculties I listed above are geniuses, or at least brilliant but now reverse is the case, examination malpractices and sorting for admission at its pick. I'm very sure most of those students had 5, 6, 7 As in WAEC with a very high JAMB score. Very pathetic.

This is phenomenal, if you check, it is within the period post utme test was put on hold. Guys with A's gotten from miracle centers were smuggled into UI, now the wind has blown and the rump of the hen has been exposed!

I think they should have been placed on probation and if their current GP for second semester still appears below 1.0 then they should be sent home asap.

So sad that our young guys prefer comfort so much but forgot to realize that hard work truly pays and without some level of discomfort hard work can't be achieved.

When JAMB is pegging cut off mark as 120.

Lol..you can't blame jamb.,even jamb is right by placing the cut off mark as 120.

Now look at all those clinical medical science course, to study them in UI you must have 9As at one sitting and over 300 in jamb and still they can't make 1.0 and they even have the highest percentage.

That was because a ban was placed on PostUTME test as at the time of their admission processes which hinders UI from thoroughly screening them with its highly reputed PosUTME exam comprising of 100 questions.

Thank God the ban as being reversed and PostUTME was conducted yesterday in the school and will be conducted today.

Ultimately, this sounds like a good news to DE aspirants as UI will choose to fill up the spaces in 200 level.

TSUNAMI LIST

it is normal
****Mofidied****

For UI students, I was blessed to witness the coinage of that popular phrase "Tsunami List".
It was Kuti Hall Social Minister, I think 06 or so, popularly known as 'Konami', that has the fame.
wink wink

UTME and WAEC are not reliable,
any reputable uni must conduct post-UTME exams
to weed out cheaters.

Our school systems has nothing to write home about, admission based on who brought you, admitting close to 300 students in department without facilities for conducive learning environment, no good supervision for lecturer's and expecting to produced first class.

I became serious in year two, and got so many 5's in many courses...i sha graduated with 2.9GP. I try small...when i first saw that 1.5GP, one of my friend advised me to drop out...thank God i didnt listen.

Minister of Education,Prof. Adamumu Adamumu come and carry your people. He was busy trying to implement policies that will benefit his brothers...,govt isn't helping issues, lecturers also contribute to students' failure...which could be the lecturing method adopted or due to the unfriendly school timetable; however, some students are not helping issues...

Dapromzy333:
The management of University of Ibadan (UI) has announced plans to withdraw 580 100 level students from the institution.

The University` Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Olayinka, said this while lamenting over poor performance of the students.

Olayinka said 580 of the 2,961 students admitted into the University last year performed woefully in their first semester examination.

The Vice Chancellor said the affected students were those admitted when banned was placed on Post-UTME examination by the Nigerian Government las year.

He said the University could not assess the students; hence they were admitted into the university base on their JAMB score and O` Level results.

“The Senate of the University of Ibadan at its meeting held on Wednesday, 18 October, 2017, considered the results of the First Semester Examinations for the 2016/2017 Session. One major feature of the results was the noticeably poor performance of the 100 level students.

“From our records, 510 of the students out of the 2,961 posted a Cumulative Grade Point Average of less than 1.0. Kindly note that this is the minimum level of performance required to retain studentship here. In other words, 17.2 percent of the 100 level students would have to significantly improve their academic performance in order not to be advised to withdraw from the University at the end of the session,” Olayinka said in a statement.

The Vice Chancellor gave a breakdown of percentage of students with CGPA less than 1.0 in various departments as:

Faculty of Arts- 6.9%
Science-16%
Basic Medical Sciences-34.8%
Clinical Sciences-5.5%
Dentistry-7.1%
Public Health-45.8%
Forestry-33.3%
Social Sciences-8.3%
Education-15.4%
Veterinary Medicine-26.6%
Technology-20.9%
Law-2.4%, and
Pharmacy-12.9%.

Olayinka said, “As leaders of this University at this point in time, we have the onerous responsibility of bringing the best out of our students.

“For me as a person, it hurts very deeply when any student is advised to withdraw from the university on account of very poor academic performance. As you are aware, the pass mark in any of your courses is now 45 percent as against 40 percent hitherto. Secondly, Continuous Assessment now accounts for 40 marks out of the maximum 100 marks in each course.

“Moreover, the minimum number of units that you need to pass at the end of the 100 level is now 24 units, as against 20 units previously. All these taken together indicate that the standard is being improved. Students are expected to rise to the occasion by being more focused and always remember the primary reason why you are here.

“One of the measures being put in place, by Senate, is to strengthen our Continuous Assessment Policy. In this respect, there will be at least two tests or assignments conducted during this Semester. The three domains of cognitive, affective and psychomotor are to be taken into consideration in the determination of continuous assessment scores.

“The marks allotted to continuous assessment will be spread to reflect the totality of what students do and could include one or a combination of quizzes, conduct in and out of class, theatre, laboratory, class participation, group work, practical/field work, assignments, class attendance, presentations and tests. Moreover, a week has been set aside in the revised Academic Calendar for Continuous Assessment. This is the period from Monday, 6 November 2017 to Friday, 10 November, 2017.

“I hasten to add that the Senate has directed Heads of Departments to implement the strengthened Continuous Assessment Policy in the University. Deans of Faculties will monitor the level of compliance while the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) will coordinate,” he said.

As you are aware, parts of the second stanza on the University Anthem talks of 'Greatness won with honest toil'. Here it is only honest. hardwork that pays.

I implore you to work harder this Semester. I wish you all the best in the remaining few weeks before you start the end of Semes

Ask any UNILORIN student... Withdrawal there is real. It's even 1.5 for most, 2.0 for Engineering and 3.0 for others. UI should follow suit
