Need Help With Possible Brain Box Issue by philybuck(m): 8:18pm On Oct 26, 2017
Hello house, I appreciate the work of experts in this section and I hope am a blue to find a solution with this post. Please I bought a 2003 Toyota Highlander for my mom just two months ago and it's embarrassing that the car started developing issues in the past two weeks. It started with the ignition turning on but the engine refusing to start. The electrician checked and adviced that we change the battery to the vehicle's remote control, we did that and the same issue repeated itself yesterday. Now the electricians says such failure is because the load on the brain box causes it to heat up and shuts down automatically. He said it will cost 70k to get a new one from onitsha. I need advise from experts here regarding this.

Where did you buy it from is what you should have stayed first, Anoka used or imported so we can guess if it has a history of abuse.

Do you have a check engine light on and what is the oil level and color like.

When it runs how high is the temperature gauge.

Those points will affect compression, ignition don't let kazeem burn your car messaging with fuel

Note these points then contact Gazzuz or mayor

Thank you, I bought it from one of the major dealers in kaduna and it was imported. Am not even in same city with the car to check these out, I asked her driver and he said oil level was ok, no check engine indicator but didn't mention anything about the temperature.

Engine is not starting and your electrician says you should check battery to the remote fob. cheesy grin. Only in a case if it were to be a Smart key. Back to the business of the day.

Does the engine crank or no crank at all. If it does check for presence of spark, fuel, lastly compression. Check in this order

On the other hand if it doesn't crank check a low voltage battery first, lastly check your starter motor.

Finally when the key is turned to first ignition does the "check engine" sign pop up

The engine doesn't crank, am still surprised at his assertion because I know brain box gives different signs before it packs up.

did u by any chance install an after market security system on the vehicle? from ur description, mechanic changed the battery in the remote fob (automobile jargon for car key with embedded chip for signalling the ecu or brain box that the right key is being used to start the vehicle) and the vehicle started then the problem resurfaced after some time.

now if u installed any security on the car, its time to isolate it out of the equation by finding someone capable to either disconnect it temporarily or test its integrity.

also if the vehicle comes with a remote fob, confirm that u don't have a blinking error light on the dash when u crank the engine. the dash will always blink a key led on the dash(most vehicle brands) when the ecu doesn't sense the presence of the matching key trying to start the car,..... an anti-theft mechanism.

for a vehicle to start when cranked, it needs the right combination of air, fuel, spark, timing ..........

most manufacturers also install an immobilizer that restricts resources needed to perform one of the above. also confirm what mayor said, if ur check engine light does not come on wen u switch on ignition then there is a disconnect between the vehicle and the ecu and the vehicle will never start no mata how many times u crank it.
