The world is obsessed with ranking things. I must confess I am guilty of it too. All over the internet, there are all kinds of rankings called top this and top that. You’ll see Top 20 most beautiful musicians, top 20 richest athletes, Top 1000 Universities by webometrics and so on. What I find perplexing, however, is that Nigerians hardly top any of these lists except that of the richest pastors. Our musicians are not there among the world’s richest. Neither are our Sportsmen and women, actors and Entrepreneurs. On the world's 20 richest pastors list we have at least five Nigerians.
I find this fact difficult to process. Why does a nation as poor as ours have the world's richest pastors? Does Nigeria have more Christians than other nations? The answer is NO, we don't. Below are countries with the highest Christian population from the most populous to the least populous.
1. USA 247.78 million
2. Russia195.77 million
3 Brazil 178.70 million
4. Mexico 107.80 million
5.Philippines 90.53 million
6. Nigeria 80.28 million
7. Congo 68.56 million
8.China 67.10 million
9.Ethiopia 55.01 million
10. Italy 54.15 million

Five of the countries on this list have more Christians than Nigeria. And their citizens are averagely richer too. According to available statistics the average churchgoers in these countries make more money than their Nigerian counterparts, yet their pastors are still not as wealthy as ours. Perhaps God has a soft spot for Nigerian Christians? Well, if he does, why then is he not also showering his blessings on church goers? When God blessed Solomon materially did he not also extend it to the whole of Israel?

The explanation to this is quite simple. Perhaps it is lurking somewhere in your subconscious because you are afraid to think it out to yourself. Let me put it out there in black and white. OUR PASTORS ARE CORRUPT CRIMINALS! You probably suspected I was going to say this. And yes, I have. We are a corrupt society. We have corrupt politicians, corrupt judges, corrupt police force, corrupt army, corrupt university lecturers; and your precious General Overseer, Pastor, Apostle or whatever appellation he prefers is not exempt. You find it easy to accept that the others mentioned are corrupt but not your pastor who is dominating the world's top 20 with his compatriots? You don't believe he is corrupt even when he shows up on Panama papers having discrete investments worth millions of dollars? Do you feel the same way about the politicians who were also in that leaked document? Just remember that both your pastors and politicians minister to the people, and while the politicians manage taxes the pastors manage tithe. While the people remain in abject poverty, these religious and political ministers own private jets. And both of these two groups have individuals who own investments in discrete tax havens. Only a mind imprisoned by the commitment to protect any of these groups would not draw the conclusion that they are criminals. With the help of God’s word and your money, a private jet in the sky is just a stepping stone.

Why is your pastor scamming you? I will answer that like the Nigerian I am- they say we love to answer questions with questions. Why do policemen take a bribe? Why are your politicians stealing tax payer’s money? Why are there thousands of young Nigerians on the internet scamming people? The answer is BECAUSE THEY CAN. Why did people sell their fellow humans in the trans-Atlantic slave trade? Why did kings sell their subjects for a bottle of dry gin while the subjects still believed that their kings had a mandate from the gods? Why did our colonial masters colonize other countries and used their resources to develop theirs? It is because they could. The answer is that simple. Your pastors are good at what they do and it is rewarding.

People tend to make careers out of anything they are good at if they think there are no repercussions. Did you say there are repercussions from God? That exactly is the problem, the loophole exploited by “Men of God”. Churchgoers assume that their pastors actually believe all the things they preach from the pulpit. They underestimate the power that mastery of anything has on an individual. Whatever we do well and are rewarded and appreciated for we keep doing. We humans have a need for integrity, honesty and sound morals, but we also love to do what we are good at even if for some of us that means exploiting others.

For your greedy pastor, just like our slave trading pre-colonial rulers, it is even easier because they are respected for it. You made it easy for the heavenly man of God to take your earthly money because whenever that voice that tells you to scrutinize the way of life of this man comes into your mind you quickly stop yourself with your favourite scripture: "do not judge". Pastors have quoted it a countless number of times and your Christian brothers repeated it so much that you have it playing in a loop in your head. Do not be trapped by a technique that has been used for ages to stop people from thinking. He is misapplying the bible verse. If the same bible says "by their fruit ye shall know them" it means you can use the sense that God gave you to judge if your pastor is just a fraudster who is good with the scriptures. What you cannot do is judge who is going to perish because that right belongs to God exclusively. Do not let Charlatans enrich themselves at your own expense. Do not let anyone make you work for a heavenly reward while he is an earthly billionaire. What is he doing with all that money if heaven is the ultimate goal anyway?

If a Poor man starts an NGO funded by donations from people and he becomes a billionaire in a decade or two, won't you as a donor be interested in how he became a billionaire? Would you not want to know how the money you have been donating is being spent? Why then do you always handle religious leaders with kid gloves? Do you know that churches are like NGOs and a pastor can go to jail for embezzling church funds? Why are his European counterparts not living in the same opulence? It is not because they are holier but because their church members won't appreciate it. Why then are you such easy game?

Nigerian pastors are wealthy and there is nothing mysterious or divine about it. It has to do with the kind of brands they have created. They insist on the payment of tithe. "Pay your tithe or things will be tight for you". Poor attempt at a play on words, but you believe it. Many of you skip church when you have no offering money. Don't deny it, you do. Everyday prosperity, prosperity, prosperity. He shows off with your own money and instead of being put off, you part with more of your money. Afterall, if God has blessed the man of God for being faithful he will reward your faithfulness too. God did not bless him. You did.

We Nigerians are numb to corruption, so when we see it, we are not affected by it, especially when we see it in the man of God. The bible says that God is not partial and that God cannot lie. I believe it. So God does not love Nigerian pastors more. Statisticians say numbers don't lie. I also believe this. The kind of money our pastors have and the financial situation of churchgoers don't add up. God cannot love Nigerian pastors more than he loves other pastors in the world. Your pastor's success is all a result of your love for him, not God's.
So, continue to praise the Lord and pass the collection plate! Pastor needs a new pair of everything!

It's WORLDPEACE signing out.
Peace!

The question everyone should ask themselves is,

Did they consult God before acquiring a private jet.?

If God gave them a go ahead, then seal your mouth and if they never consulted God, they should do so now that pressure is mounting up.

Finally, have you yourself consulted God before supporting or opposing.?

Thanks.

Nigerian G.Os must be consulting a different God from other church leaders in the world. The archbishop of Canterbury, pope and patriach of the Russian Orthodox church don't have God to consult.
This is the age of the internet. All conmen shall be exposed.

As a Christian, have you consulted God concerning his view about this topic.? Yes or No.

It is a sin to conclude a matter outside the knowledge of God.

A Christian must first consult God before taking sides.

Yes, I have consulted God and he said "by their fruit ye shall know them".
They bear the same fruits as corrupt politicians and yahoo boys. This matter was not concluded outside God's knowledge.

May your point bring the downfall of these men if truly God is not in support of them.

But first, God should bring it to their attention that they have derailed before collapsing them if they refuse.

Remain blessed bro.

The OP's opening captures the reality of our Christian world when compared with others.

Even with neck deep and widespread poverty amongst our ranks, our pastors have become the wealthiest.

They drive top of the range cars, suit up in the costliest of robes and now they cannot be so belittled buying commercial air tickets when the congregation can put Daddy G.O in a learjet all day, everyday.

Thanks for this masterpiece. It captures the Nigerian pentecostal scam for what it is, no apologies.

I have been in churches around the world and I can say conclusively that a scam is taking place in Nigeria on the daily.

I'm of the Freezian school of thought which chants -"Free the sheeple".

The minds of our people must be free.

There's a systematically orchestrated attack on the church in Nigeria as if the money of all those who are at the forefront of this evil campaigns has been diabolically taken from them.
We must accept there has been a deep resentment against the church as how well churches, members and leaders are doing has become a source of worry to politicians, many so called stars in the entertainment industry, etc who otherwise thought they should be at the center of attraction!
A peep at the Constitution will reveal to any man that churches are not for profit organizations and activities are funded through VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS of members according to how each member has been blessed or chose to give.
While I've heard and read various arguments on scriptural positions on payment of tithes which were good as such arguments are capable on opening eyes of members to the thinking of the various church leaders, it is expedient for those who are Christians to focus on what has been working for them; sow seeds of faith, give your offerings, practice goodness, help your community and live a responsible life.

A lot of people are afraid of the astronomical growth of the church, the prosperity of the church is a reflection of it's members' economic well being. While the primary focus of the church is salvation message, God is blessing His children and people are afraid!
These people never talked about how the church has suddenly become an agent of jobs creation and poverty alleviation employing thousands of members and non members as well, consider how many people work across church universities and schools, those who work as full time pastors, and other professionals and employees which across all churches are into millions. Return all those back into the labor market as unemployed and see the foolishness in the latest campaign against the body of Christ.

If I work through out the year I don't think I owe anyone out there other than my family how I spend my money, why should you bother if I give my money to my pastor or my church? and become people are pastors they no longer have to live. Just remember what Jesus said when a disciple complained of wastage when a pot of expensive oil was broken on Him, someone said it should have been sold and given to the poor, he wasn't sincere he was thinking about the money just like all these complainants, it's not their love for the poor, it's their love for themselves.

My advise to Christians is, if you know God has been blessing you, give back to God, put it in your mind as always, you are giving back to Him who is blessing you !
