Carnegie PhD Scholarships for First Class Students in Scotland, 2018

The Carnegie Trust in Scotland offers PhD scholarships for International students to be held at a Scottish university for 2018/2019 Academic Session. As long the potential candidate holds a First Class undergraduate Honours degree from a Scottish University, there are no restrictions as to nationality or residency for the PhD scholarships in Scotland.

Each year, the Trust offers a number of Ph.D. scholarships to support graduates with first class Honours undergraduate degrees from a Scottish university, who wish to pursue three years of postgraduate research leading to a Ph.D. at a university in Scotland.

The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland was created by Andrew Carnegie on 7 June 1901 and was incorporated by Royal Charter on 21 August 1902. The Trust was funded by a gift of US$10 million – a then unprecedented sum, yielding over £100,000 per year at a time when the total government assistance to all four Scottish universities was only about £50,000 a year.

Worth of Award:
The annual value of a Scholarship was £16,200 for the academic year 2017-2018 and normally rises in line with awards funded by Research Councils.
Payment of the Scholarship stipend is made monthly, in advance, normally starting on 1st October.
In addition, the Trust will cover tuition fees at the Research Councils UK (RCUK) Indicative Fee Level for the relevant academic year (universities are expected to waive any outstanding balance).
The Trust will support the Scholars with expenses incurred in connection with their study or research up to £3,000 during the tenure of the Ph.D. Scholarship. Scholars can apply for this funding using a research allowance form, which will be emailed to them in advance.

Scholars may retain in any one year, without deduction:
up to a maximum of £3,000 derived from bursaries, scholarships or prizes b. up to a maximum of £3,500 derived from fees from teaching and demonstrating.
A total of 16 scholarships are available for doctoral studies starting in 2018-19.

Eligibility
A First-Class Honours degree from a Scottish university is a pre-requisite for consideration for Scholarships. This First Class Honours degree must be in a subject related to the field of the proposed doctoral studies. Alongside existing graduates, final year undergraduate students expecting to achieve a First-Class Honours degree are also eligible for nomination. Please note that no exemptions are made to this requirement and nominations for students who do not hold a First Class Undergraduate Honours degree will not be accepted, except in faculties which do not award Honours, e.g. Medicine, where the equivalent standard will be expected Where an award is made in advance of graduation, it will be conditional on obtaining a First Class Honours degree.
A student who has already commenced study for a research degree (MPhil, PhD or equivalent) is not eligible.
The candidate must be nominated by the prospective supervisor of the PhD project and can only be submitted for consideration for a Carnegie or Caledonian PhD Scholarship by one Scottish university.
The number of submissions per Scottish university is subject to a quota (announced annually by the Trust). Each university must select its preferred candidates, according to its quota, in sufficient time to permit submission of the online application and endorsement forms ahead of the Trust’s deadline. The current quota for nominations is available in the appendix to these Regulations.
The university selected candidates must register their details on the Trust’s online application system and complete an online application form. The application portal will open 4 weeks before the closing date for submissions and will be made available to the selected candidates by the administrator in charge of the selection process for the scholarships at their university. The name of the university contact is listed in the regulations for the scheme and applicant guide downloadable under the Guidelines and Regulations tab.
Ahead of the submission deadline, the PhD candidate’s application must be endorsed online by their prospective supervisor. As part of the nomination process, the prospective supervisor must also upload an Institutional Statement of Support completed by a senior academic in the relevant Departmental/School: Head, Deputy Head, Research Director, Postgraduate Studies Director or Dean. The institutional statement of support must also include the signature of a university representative who can confirm the nominee is one of its chosen candidates. The form is available from the university contact listed in the appendix to the Regulations and under the Guidelines and Regulations tab.

The full online application and endorsement by the prospective supervisor for the selected candidates must be completed and submitted online to the Trust by 28th February 2018, 5:00 pm. The awards are announced by the end of May each year.
Nominators and Nominees are under an obligation to inform the Trust without delay of any changes to the circumstances of the Nominee, including any awards received and/or examination results obtained after the nomination has been submitted.

How to Apply
The full online application and endorsement by the prospective supervisor for the selected candidates must be completed and submitted online to the Trust by 28th February 2018, 5:00 pm

Deadline
Nominations for the candidates selected by each university must be submitted online to the trust by 28th February 2018, 5 PM (British Standard Time) for PhD projects starting in the academic year 2018-19.

HARVARD SOUTH AFRICA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN USA, 2018

The Harvard University in USA invites applications for the Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program open for 2018/2019 academic year. Fellows are selected because they have shown considerable skill in their chosen fields, and are expected to benefit from advanced training.

Fellowships are for a year of study in one of Harvard’s Professional Schools or Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, with tuition waivers provided by the School once fellows are admitted. General administrative funds for program management, stipends, and airfare for the fellow are provided by the Office of the President, and administered by the Center for African Studies, under the directorship of Professor John Mugane. Since the inception of the Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program, the Center for African Studies has awarded over 200 fellowships.

Worth of Award

The fellowship provides for payment of all tuition for the full period of enrollment at Harvard.
The fellowship also funds round-trip airfare between the fellow’s home and Boston. A monthly stipend is provided to fellows, with the exception of those enrolled in the Executive Education Programs, to cover the cost of housing and other living expenses. Housing is usually in university graduate dormitories. Please note that housing costs in the Boston/Cambridge area are extremely high, and the stipend only covers bare necessities.
The monthly stipend must also be used to pay other expenses such as medical and dental insurance, medicine, taxes, food, winter clothing, books and supplies. Fellows are held personally responsible for the payment of all bills other than tuition fees and airfare. Fellows should also be aware that their stipends will have a significant amount of taxes taken out before they receive the funds.
Eligibility

The HSAFP was conceived largely to provide educational enrichment for men and women in mid-career, that is, individuals in various occupations who have shown considerable skill in their chosen fields and leadership and are expected to benefit from advanced training.
Thus candidates who have just completed, or who have not yet completed, a first degree are not selected unless this degree has been pursued concurrently with, or subsequent to, experience in the workplace. Fellows usually range in age from 30 to 45 years. Fellows must be South African citizens.
Fellows submit their applications directly to the Harvard South Africa Fellowship Program at Harvard University. A committee of HSAFP alumni, Center staff and the CAS Faculty Director will interview the short-listed applicants in South Africa.
Successful candidates must then apply to and be admitted at the specific Harvard school where they intend to study.
Applicants should determine well in advance whether, if awarded a fellowship, they can be granted leave by their employers for Harvard’s academic year. They should generally plan to be in residence at Harvard from September until June. However, some programs require fellows to begin residence on July 1st. No candidate should accept an interview unless assured that such leave will be granted. The Center does not wish to assign fellowships to anyone who subsequently finds it impossible to use the opportunity.

How to Apply

Submit the application form to CARAT through the “Uploads” tab.
Submit transcripts from all post-secondary institutions you have attended. Transcripts must be submitted through the “Uploads” tab on CARAT. Transcripts must show the grades and course titles for all your post-secondary coursework. Copies of diplomas are NOT required.
Two letters of recommendation must be submitted through the “References” tab on CARAT.
Deadline: Applications close April 4, 2018

SCHOLARSHIP IN USA, 2018

The Kent State University in the USA invites applications for the International Student Graduate Assistance for the 2018/2019 academic year. Many graduate programs offer fellowships or one of three types of graduate assistantships: administrative, teaching or research. Students should first inquire about the availability of assistantships through their academic program.

Kent State University is a large, primarily residential, public research university in Kent, Ohio, United States. The university also includes seven regional campuses in Northeast Ohio and additional facilities in the region and internationally.

Worth of Award

Financial assistance at the graduate level is available in three forms.

The first and most available is a graduate assistantship. In return for up to 20 hours of work per week during the academic year, the student will receive a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend.
The second, a teaching or research fellowship, offers a full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend and allows students to focus exclusively on teaching or research rather than departmental duties.
The third form is a scholarship that may require external funding or may involve university or departmental competition.

Eligibility

International students are allowed to work a maximum 20 hours/week on campus.
International students are not allowed to work off-campus without prior approval. Students should meet with an ISSS advisor in the Office of Global Education if they are interested doing this.
Most assistantships are awarded to doctoral students and some programs fund 100% of their graduate students while others do not.
It is important to contact the program directly to see how they structure their assistantships.
Students wishing to apply for any of these should contact either the chair or the graduate coordinator of their major department.

How to Apply

A general application is available at Financial Aid/Graduate Assistantships Page via their website. See link below.
The application for a graduate appointment is included as part of your application packet for admission to Kent State.
Deadline: Deadlines will vary, please check with graduate department

Good afternoon, please I want to build a network for those interested in pursuing a career in academics and research. My personal interest is in research analysis and academics. In view of this, I've been thinking of how to help myself and like minded people to achieve this professional goal. That is why I have brought the idea here to anyone interested in following such career path.
We will give full information on how to secure a research/academic job; link participants with institutions to promote their academic development in degree programmes like M.sc, MPhil, PhD and other Post Doc Programmes; and give full information on relevant scholarship boards available to developing countries.
If you're interested, Send "Add me for Research" to 08162911871 on Whatsapp
Thank you cheesy grin wink
