Polygamy can't be a Crime in Nigeria (@least in d federal constitution) as this would go against some cultural and religious sections in the country.

some culture e.g idol worship would want human sacrifice so we should make that OK?

The consitution of Nigeria respects the diversity of Cultures and Religion. While there are some fundamental rights recognised by the Federal COnsitution regardless of Culture or Religion like the (Right to Life wink ), the case of Polygamism wouldn't fall within a must for all, as cultures and religions may differ.

Nonetheless, the protection of rights of women is fundamental and thus any polygamic arrangment would have to guard against the abuse of women!

I believe polygamism could occur without necesarily infringing on women rights. I guess the case of older generation Nigerians who had peaceful families is an example.

polygamy is nothing but abuse of women.
Who says the older generation had happier lives.
Times are changing and the Nigerian soceity should not be left behind.
It is barbaric and should be banned.
Remember the 4 letter word AIDS.

What's AIDS got to do with polygamy? Nigerians, sha! Anyway, as much as I don't particularly fancy it, I don't think making it a crime makes sense. Men are naturally polygamous. Just because you're married to one wife doesn't stop men from having concubines. That's just just the way this world is. I've seen girls in Nigeria who won't mind being in a polygamous relationship. So, it's really not right to suggest making polygamy a crime in Nigeria.

Not that I agree with it, but of all the changes that needs to be made in Nigeria and of all the amendments that should be made in the constitution, criminalizing polygamy should be at the bottom of the ladder. We've a heap of other things that should be prioritized and catered to in the country right now than that.
