Simple machine forum (SMF) is the best fee forum soft,bt if if u've got bucks to spend then go for Vbulletin.
There are others like phpBB,Vanilla etc.

Vbulletin is worth the cash you spend to get it. It's argueably the best plus it's search engine friendly.

@Afam,we are saying just the same thing.SMF is the best FREE forum soft and Vbulletin the best forum soft money can buy.But u know it's good to give someone many options so he could go for what he could lay hands on.

Why do people keep blabbing about vb and se friendly thing,
if you have good niche, se will find you.
google dont share the algorithm they use for their se.
SMF has sef modules you can freely download and install.

VB is the best because thy slammed price tag everywhere. SMF will still sell if they go for sale.

VBulletin and SMF are great. There are new additions as well. I came across one forum software with a wiki feature built in. So that popular threads can be easily put in as a wiki article. Check it out as an alternative. Try www.wikidforum.com
