Google is blocking uncertified devices from running Google apps, but it will make an exception for custom ROMs

Android is an open-source operating system, so in addition to the “blessed” version that Google distributes to major manufacturers, a million other varieties have blossomed. If your Android device is certified by Google, you’re allowed to distribute Google’s official Android apps (such as the Play Store, Maps, etc.) on it. If you’re not certified — common examples are Amazon’s Fire OS tablets and also most Chinese phones sold in China — you aren’t supposed to ship those apps. Technical users typically resort to sideloading Google’s apps if they want them, but there are also some less-reputable manufacturers that ship Google software without permission.

Google is now checking the build date of your Android system image when you attempt to run Google apps. If you have an uncertified device and you’re running a version of the Android OS that was compiled after March 16th, 2018, Google apps won’t work. The Wild West of sideloading is over. This is bad for you if your device doesn't meet the minimum hardware requirements to run a particular android operating system.

Most Chinese MTK devices fall short of this category, in a bid to wow their audience by running the latest Android updates on their devices, performance suffer and Google is tired of Android users with poor device hardware painting a bad image about the Android operating system. Google will now certify devices before they are allowed to run Google apps on them, most importantly Google playstore. Sideloading the apps maybe possible but Google will always patch this hole and many of you won't be willing to go down this road with them because they can release updates as soon as twice a week. Ask anyone who still jailbreaks an iPhone, it's probably not worth the stress anymore.

For Infinix and TECNO mobile to ship there phones pre-installed with Google apps they will now have to get there devices certified, so expect better hardware specs but the price tag won't be friendly anymore. Infinix might have seen this coming and decided to use a snapdragon processor on there latest phone S3, but this socs is old and considered an entry level processor but yet it costs as high as 65k and people don't understand this. If you can't afford a high end device, this is understandable, but make sure you know the challenges you are likely to face soon and how to go about it.

Google will now hunt android phone manufacturers that aren't authorized to run Android operating systems, and if you buy such phones, you won't be able to download or update apps from Google play store. Many apps won't work including whatsapp and Facebook because you need Google play service to make them work. So for Google to authorize your device manufacturer, the hardware used must meet the minimum requirements needed to run that android operating system. So In a nut shell, stay away from cheap Chinese phones for now, and that includes Tecno and Infinix, unless you are ready to search XDA for a developer to port Custom ROMs for you.

So what you are trying to say here is that Tecno's phones aren't certified by google, but i know that's not true. Especially since Tecno and iTel are working on a project with google to introduce a new line of android go phones later this year that will rely entirely on pure stock android.

Well you can't be too sure, Tecno is trying to keep the budget low for consumers but it's becoming difficult expecially since the release of Nougat which is intensive on a 1gb ram, but that's not the only problem. Android Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) for Android 7.1 has a long list of requirements that a device MUST meet to run this OS, and I can point a lot I know some new Tecno phones didn't pass but yet are running Nougat. I read a thread somewhere here about complaints of the Tecno CM multitasking not working properly, and you won't get notifications for whatsapp unless you open it and calcare response to this is a phone should run one app at a time. Google is aware of issues like this, they still want cheap Android phones in the market but not with crappie old hardwares. Google came up with the Android Go so devices with entry level hardwares can ship this os and not the heavy stuck android version with bootwares. If you have time you can read the CDD for Nougat here.

https://source.android.com/compatibility/7.1/android-7.1-cdd

And no Tecno and ITel has no business with Google, Android Go is just what it is, stuck android you can install on any Linux compatible device. The best way to check if your device is certified is

1. Open the Google Play Store
2. Open the sidebar menu by pulling in from the left
3. Tap on Settings
4. Scroll down to the “About” section. Your device’s certification sta

If you see Certified then this shouldn't bother you, if you don't, let's just say you will soon kicked out of Google apps ecosystem and there is nothing much you can do now, and if you find a way to bypass it, there will be future updates with a patch and Android will automatically install it for you.

I'm not discouraging anyone from using this devices, read my post well please. If you can't afford a flagship like iPhone and Samsung, you can still buy this devices from Tecno and Infinix but before you do, make sure you check if your phone is certified else Google apps won't work. It's that simple! I even posted a way to check.
