One of the funny statements you hear from singles
who are not willing to learn about marriage is
"marriage is all about understanding, nothing else". My
question to them is, how do you understand something
when you don't have detailed information or right
knowledge about it? How do you understand the man
or woman you are married to or want to marry when
you don't have any knowledge about them?
When you don't know their needs, when you don't
know what makes them happy or angry, when you
don't know the right words or action? When you don't
know what to say or do and the right timing? When you
don't know how to be the right spouse for them since
each man has their own definition of what marriage is
and what the right spouse is or is not?
The truth is, marriage is not about understanding as
people say; it is about seeking the right knowledge.
Without the knowledge you can't understand your
spouse. It is time people stopped being lazy and idle,
and start acquiring knowledge instead of hiding behind
the tag, “marriage is all about understanding”.
No man can correctly operate a newly acquired
product when they have no knowledge about it or fail
to read the manual that comes with the product. You
either abuse the product or under utilise it. You might
end up just using the product for two or a few
functions when it capable of doing a lot more.
You end up pressing the wrong button and forcing it to
do what it wasn't meant or created for. Your lack of
proper knowledge will lead you to damage the
product.
Spouses are the ones destroying their marriages today
and not anyone because they don't have the right
knowledge about marriage but think when they get
married, it will be easy to understand each other.
It is like saying, I won't learn driving but once I get a
car, I will be able to drive. The truth is, you might end
up killing yourself if not with others as well. Don't
expect to read a letter and understand it when you fail
to learn how to read and write.
You need knowledge to understand. Without
knowledge, understanding is not possible. So marriage
is not about understanding, it is about knowledge. The
reason why some women are labelled as bad cooks in
their marriage is not because they don't know how to
cook, but because they have not learnt how to cook
food the way their husband want.
The reason why some husbands don't enjoy sex with their wives is not that they are bad in bed, it's because they are not able to discover what their wives want in bed, how they want it and do that for them. The missing link between knowledge and a product is understanding. When you know what one wants, it means you have knowledge about the person. Young men and women, please learn about relationship and marriage. That is what will make you succeed. Some of this knowledge you seek requires you having a good relationship with God for His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, to teach you.
In conclusion "Intelligent people want to learn, but stupid people are satisfied with ignorance."
