Dear Prof. Adewole,

Are Science Laboratory Technicians members of the healthcare team?

In any country of the world apart from the Nigeria that you are working to build for the upcoming generation?

That you would deliberately refuse to mention Medical Laboratory Scientists and instead mention a different profession that is not even qualified to work in the Medical Laboratory shows that you are actually aiding and abetting rampant quackery in the Nigerian medical laboratory space.

No wonder many private hospitals and clinics employ Science Laboratory Technicians in place of Medical Laboratory Scientists who are the trained professionals that are meant to work in the Medical Laboratory.

After, we now complain about rampant misdiagnosis and generation of erroneous results.

The right team member to include is "Medical Laboratory Scientists".

It is high time the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) be left alone unhindered to perform her statutory role of sanitizing the Nigerian Medical Laboratory space instead of the Minister hampering the sanitization process by removing the Registrar - Prof. Anthony Emeribe who had kick started the inspection of Medical Laboratories across the country and was working on eradicating quackery.

I really hope that the current Registrar, MLSCN - Mr Tosan Erhabor will be allowed to do the same medical laboratory inspection exercise too and not be given a hammer just for daring...

***********†****************************************************************

On a more general note, this observation is quite saddening...

Now, I think I understand why other Healthcare professionals complain of marginalisation from medical doctors to other healthcare workers especially Medical Laboratory Scientists.

Even worse the Minister in the interview session I just read referred to Medical Laboratory Scientists as Science Laboratory Technicians.

Is there any wonder why the Minister with impunity supports oppression against Medical Laboratory Scientists?

This is really quite disgraceful that a whole Minister of Health would not know about the core cadres of staff that make up the Healthcare team?

In what other ways is he ignorant?

I actually have a feeling the Minister is not ignorant of the right cadre of healthcare work to refer to, but that he is either doing this intentionally to malign or slight Medical Laboratory Scientists.

No wonder the Nigerian Health Sector is in shambles.

Science Laboratory Technicians are the ones Professor Adewole wants in his own ideal healthcare team composition.

Odiegwu!

I wish I had access to actually have a heart to heart discussion with Prof. Adewole.

If he had a daughter or a son who took interest in Medical Laboratory Science and took the pains of going to school for 5 + 1 years as an undergraduate and eventually served the nation + 1 year , would he support the stagnation and oppression of his child on his entry into the workforce?

Would he not be interested in his child's career progression and enabling opportunities and environment for career advancement?

Why is the Nigerian health care sector continuing the archaic practice of a one man doctor carrying a black bag show and trying to do the work of the nurse, the pharmacist and the medical laboratory scientist - in fact every other Healthcare professional?

How feasible and sustainable is that?

When will we be ready to move out of the dark ages and embrace the light of team spirit camaraderie and inter professional collaborations instead of all the outdated superiority complex and oppressive tendencies.

This night reading this interview I am just so disturbed , sad and angry at the same time.

How will we achieve Universal Health Coverage for all Nigerians in this kind of an oppressive atmosphere?

Is the healthcare service to Nigerians available, appropriate , affordable and readily accessible?

With all these inter professional rancour and inhibitory tendencies?

When will we change?

For the positive? When?

From a really concerned Nigerian,

Onaoluwa Abimbola.

Professor Adewale is a fool for doing that. He should resign the job for peace in the health sector

I guess next time he should mention each profession. This would include, medical doctors, dentists, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, medical laboratory scientists, dental technologist, optometrist, dental surgery assistant, dental technician, pharmacists technician, records officers I, 2 &3, ; laboratory technicians and even the admin staff (all part of JOHESU), so that he can sound balanced.

I apologize for leaving out any profession.

Do you think this is practicable?

You can search for the interview online. what I posted is a response. It is not addressing leaving a profession out but unable to distinguish science and medical

If the President is a confirmed and legalized failure as asserted by eminent Nigerians and other stakeholders in the Nigeria project, the Minister is therefore a Prof of Health Sector Failure. Buhari is not use to sacking because he enjoys the company of failures.
