PROF HAGHER JOINS PRESIDENTIAL RACE
Prof. Iyorwuese Hagher, a former senator in the second Republic; high commissioner to Canada and two time minster of the federal republic of Nigeria; on Thursday submitted his letter of intent to run for the highest office in the land under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The Benue State born bureaucrat and professor of high repute is the second person (after Prof Jerry Gana) to pick the show-of-interest form for the 2019 election under the party’s platform.
Hagher while addressing party officials, supporters and the press lamented that the leadership difficiency and insecurity in Nigeria at the moment are unprecedented.
He warned that the climate of fear, hopelessness and despair in the country is simply unacceptable to patriots; hence his resolve to come forward and rescue Nigeria from imminent descent to a failed state status, through as deliberate revolution of hope based on education, restructuring, modern infrastructure and human development at a pace befitting of a modern state.
He promised to commit more than 26perecent of the Nation's budget to education, and to give women 18 ministerial appointments in his cabinet when elected president.
The aspirant was received on behalf of the party by the Deputy National Chairman, Dr Abdul Isiaq Ahmed, National secretary of the party, Alh. Shehu Gabam, National Organizing Secretary, Rt Hon Emeka Atuma among others.
