Abeokuta Railway: FG Relocates Abeokuta Train Station Again by AutoReportNG: 12:44am On Jul 19, 2018
The Abeokuta train station, for the proposed Lagos/Abeokuta rail project, earlier scheduled to be located at the Trade Fair complex, Laderin, Abeokuta, is to be relocated to the Oba New City, a 6-km distance from the state capital.

Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, disclosed this, after an on-the-site visit to the project site, together with the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and engineers handling the project.

He said the earlier chosen site, was declared unsuitable by the engineers, adding that the new location, which incidentally falls within the proposed new city of the Ogun State Government, will enhance the new city development project as well as attract rapid development to the area.

According to him, the initial location will have necessitated the demolition of about 2000 houses, adding that the decision will avert the big loss to residents.

Amosun, in his remarks, restated that the government was not only heeding the advice of the engineers but also avoiding inflicting pain on residents, whose properties will have given way for the project.

Meanwhile, these are some of the pictures from the site...

So who chose the initial sight prior now?
If the new site will prevent the demolition of 2000 houses, then this is a good development.
Make it snappy guys.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

Yes, he is right but my worries is that what will happen to the structure already put in place? They have to start all over again. Imagine the pillars and the mappings, the maps have to be re-drawn, where is the money to waste?

Oh, we get you now.
Looking at the structures already on ground.
That is several millions of naira already gone into the project.
We wonder the engineers that started the initial project earlier.
That is one of the problems of this nation.
Wastage!

But are we to blame the engineers or the FG who is not proactive on time? Imagine if they had come earlier, the millions that is about to be demolished would be been stopped.

Its well with Nigeria.

You are right bro.
Even a normal slab made with concrete to cover the drainages out there, we know how much one cost,
not to talk of the colossal concrete we are looking at here, imagine the bags of cement and concrete required just to build one of those.
It shall be well....

Old concrete blocks, which include cinder blocks and pavers, can be crushed, and the material can be used for filler in Portland cement. ... Concrete blocks can be recycled for new building projects

That is a state and not a federal government project. Wike should be asked and held responsible for that if nothing is being done to it.

Tactical delays. If they really want to build this train, since 3 years ago they would have linked ibadan with Lagos.

I think that that original site made some sense due to being inside Abeokuta proper, but Amosun was not ready to start demolishing houses due to election.

That original site could have been cleared and turned into a logistics hub, but since Amosun has decided to build a new city her decided to move the whole thing to that city to avoid demolition and to upgrade the city.

The feasibility study of that new city he is building has been suspect for a while so the new plan was to use the main train station to upgrade it. That way he can collect loans based on projected revenue and retire quietly.

They are moving things around anyhow because the road is being built under loan so the Chinese will just add more to the loan balance.

As professionals a thorough feasibility study or environmental impact assessment(EIA) would been done to forestall unnecessary and wasteful spending. That is their fuss.

Pls don't always say what you don't know.

Governors most times work on federal govt. Roads in their domain.. federal govt. Then pay them back..
That is a state working on a federal govt road.

The monorail in ph. Is a state govt. Project. Not fed.
It should be completed with state funds. Or an agreement be in place for it to be receeded to the federal govt.

Wike is playing politics by not completeting that rail.

Sorry but my understanding of the post is that the abeokuta end of the project is to be relocated because it falls within an already built area and not suitable.

Would that also affect the entire project, if so they better demolish the 2000 structures on it way.

Amaechi as minister has no jurisdiction over ph mono rail any longer. Its the responsibility of wike to take it up from where Amaechi stopped and do his bit. PH mono rail is state govt affairs.

Lol it’s funny that you’re even asking such a question, but i’ll go right ahead and answer you. Yes, the blue and red lines in Lagos are being built by the LAGOS STATE GOVT.

6 kilometres from the Capital. Amaechi is thief.Je just want away to steal money. How can you move Train station 6km,out of capital city?
Re: Abeokuta Railway: FG Relocates Abeokuta Train Station Again by wristbangle: 6:38am On Jul 19, 2018
I don't think pillars already constructed will be destroyed. The only cost of implication is diversion of the rail which will incur building more pillars to connect the station. I think it's better to destroying huge amount of properties.

I blame the project manager for making a poor feasibility study.
