somehow:why not praise them first. Do you know the amount of pressure in that arena? Even the best teams in the world (USA and Australia) didn't beat us black and blue. 3 Likes |

somehow:The pressure coupled with being in the final and seeing lot of opposing fans got to the girls. So many 3 and 2 pointer misses. This is their lowest points in this tournament and it's understandable. 2 Likes |

somehow: In finals, you mostly play to win. Sometimes you just do it anyhow till you get the result. coupled with the fact that they were playing against a very partisan host supporters. The coach is taking notes Sha And he will work on it in subsequent tourneys, going forward 1 Like |

You are probably right, they should be praised, but they got to be scolded to, the girls shot abysmally from the free-throw line, they need to be toughened up mentally. This match shows how much Nigeria is ahead of the rest at the moment- Winning, despite shooting poorly from the free-throw line isaiah9: 1 Like |

Bro, this excuse no gel, they have been poor with 3pts and FT all through the tournament. Go and check stats. timay: |

Na, most of the regulars here already noticed this. They did well in the semi final game with the 3pts (9) was scored but the FT was still bad. So it had nothing to do with pressure. All the same, I am happy for us. Also happy that we have alot of tall players this time around. Addme: |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - D’Tigress At The 2024 Olympics by somehow: 10:26pm On Aug 18, 2019 |
I already did that but not interested in letting these obvious issues slide. All the same, we beat Senegal again which is sweet to the ear. We have played against better pressure before, so wouldn't take pressure as an excuse. This issue has been on from the start, just imagine doing at least 35% of the 3PTA and 75% of the FTA, Senegal for humble. Now dem go dey say we won by luck due to the closeness. isaiah9: |

Hell no, they dare not say that, they got their ass kicked on home soil despite our poor free-throw shooting somehow: |

By and large, the quality of the teams in the tournament was just horrible. Women's basketball in Africa still has a very long way to go. Bar Nigeria and Senegal, and Mali to a lesser extent, the rest were terrible. Basic things like holding strongly onto the ball was a problem. The ball readily slipped out of their grips when dribbling or catching a pass or rebounding. And shot selections were awful. Let's not even talk about the actual shot taking. Even open layups were readily missed. Still a long way to go. 1 Like |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - D’Tigress At The 2024 Olympics by PDPGuy: 8:21pm On Aug 19, 2019 |
steady986: You spoke the truth! The most astonishing deficiency was the easy layups that were missed; even D'Tigress were guilty of that on some occasions. The other area of concern was the free-throw shooting. Most of the teams couldn't convert more than 40% of their throws. If Nigeria had, at least, a 50% conversion of their free-throws, they would have won the final by double digits! Definitely, like I said earlier, coach Otis has to scout for more WNBA and college players. Specifically, he and his coaching staff should scout for players who are very good two-point shooters from outside the paint. |
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - D’Tigress At The 2024 Olympics by steady986(m): 9:47pm On Aug 19, 2019 |
PDPGuy:Spot on. I believe the future of D'Tigress is looking good. We'll be the team to beat for a very long time. The core of this team can stay together for a long time. Akhator is 24, Nyingifa is 27 or so, Ezinne is 27, Jasmine is 24, Promise is 26. The rest are 28 and above and have only 1 or 2 tournaments in them, thus the coach has to scout really hard. The good thing is Senegal have at least 8 of their players above 30. 2 Likes |

Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread - D’Tigress At The 2024 Olympics by PDPGuy: 11:31pm On Aug 20, 2019 |
Danielnino00:It’s all down to the ingenuity of the NBBF president in sourcing a loan for the team. Hopefully, the Sports Commission will approve the release of funds by this week or next week. The whole situation has been embarrassing! After trying to convince the foreign-born players to play for the country, they then receive such bad treatment as their reward. The Nigerian authorities can do much better |

I’ve taken a look at the FIBA eligibility rules, and I discovered that Arike Ogunbowale could still play for Nigeria if she acquired a Nigerian passport before she turned 16! 1 Like |

It's high time ministries learn to generate IGI for themselves. HABA, so if the government doesn't release money, they can get sponsors, yet don't want government interference. This needs to stop. They should package the sport (All sports), none should be even 60% dependent on government. PDPGuy: 1 Like |
