Oga sir, go and brush up your english language.

Do you know the meaning of apparently?

Apparent:

Appearing as such but not necessarily so

. . . from WordWeb dictionary

Conclusion: Paul appeared to be dead, but was not dead.

The understanding from wordboook dictionary was different. it means something obvious or so. I dont have it by me I would have quoted it verbatim.

Chris Oyaks words are definitely a logic virus.
Only those without the most powerful firewalls(such as Baba Jo) are susceptible to be corrupted
by their destructive tendencies.
grin

nuclearboy:

^^ My only query is - does he truly believe these things or is it the fear of losing his job/salary/whatever that makes him defend such horrendous ideas?

Must you guys make nonsensical statements? What has it got to do with oyakhilome. Did i quote him?

^^^ Matter CONCLUDED - He was NOT dead.

This is the type of deliberate mis-interpretation that CE has become famous for
. How do you re-invent meanings with a steady eye? You guys are a wonderment (!?*)

Nuclearboy stop using such words, I thought its a discussion. I personally hold the opinion that Paul died. And if you go back and read the post . I clearly said " personal opinion" Stop allowing your bad belle for pastor chris to turn you into another thing.

I believe strongly that Paul actually died and rose. The greek word Anistemi confirms it. Whatever interpretayion you try to give it, One thing was sure. Paul rising up again was connected to the prayer of the saints. If he was not dead , why didnt he get up by himself?

Read that verse again.

Acts 14:20
Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

joagbaje, did you do physics during your school days?
If you did, you would have heard about apparent depth/height as opposed to real/true depth or height.

The view a person could have of the depth of a swimming pool(filled with water) at a certain angle is obvious to the person as shallow
which gives him/her the apparent depth of the pool, but taking a dive would alert this person on the fact that the real depth is much deeper than earlier observed.

So , something being apparent is definitely obvious on face value, but further examination would reveal it to be not necessarily so.

Check here for apparent depth/real depth

Appart from all these above, it is very very easy for anybody to know that the passage from the bible in question never suggested that
Paul was dead but expressed what the people thought of his condition.

@Joagbaje:

This is simple - chris oyakilome is APPARENTLY a freemason because he made a few signs freemasons make

So answer this - Is He a freeMason?

Same thing with Paul was APPARENTLY dead because they thought he was dead.

Do you understand now?

Remember I defended him so watch your "I have beef" with oyaks nonsense

@Nuclear  can you proof your claim that Pastor Chris is a member of freemason.

@ttalks
I didnt do physics , I,m an artist but thanks for the great insight. I dont like to push certain things too much especially when I dont have strong authority to prove beyond doubt, so i keep my convictions on such to myself.
If the bible says Paul was apparently dead. The wordbook dictionary discribes apparent/ly as an unmistakably, obviously and evidently plain. which I think was the sense of the use in that translation. Even if its not the sense of use. It is not an issue. Several bible schollars also attest to the fact that Paul died. Some schools of thought  even believe that the death experience he had was the account he gave in 2corinthians about a man he knew in Christ , and also belive that that man he claimed he knew, who went up to the third heaven was actually himself.

2 Cor. 12:2
   I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knowethwink such an one caught up to the third heaven.

Adam Clark was a renowned bible schollar. His commentary on the passage in acts 14 reads.

Supposing he had been dead.] They did not leave stoning him till they had the fullest evidence that he was dead; and so, most probably, he was.

What we are dealing with here is execution and not just pursuing someone with stone to leave the city.
When James was stoned to death he saw heaven opened. (3rd heaven) Some believe he was  while others believe probably. maybe , maybe not. like Robert H. Kreger comments on heaven.

The Bible clearly teaches us concerning a place called "heaven." The Bible actually teaches us that there are three heavens. The first heaven and the second heaven are not specifically mentioned as such. But the "third heaven" is specifically brought out in II Corinthians 12:2; Paul said, "I knew a man in Christ about fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knowssmiley" In other words, Paul was referring to himself concerning the incident in Lystra where he was stoned and left for dead in Acts 14:18. He didn't really know if he was dead or if he saw a vision, or if he had a dream from God. "Such a one was taken up to the THIRD HEAVEN." It is evident that there cannot be a third heaven without there being a first and second heaven also. Therefore, in "Rightly dividing the Word of Truth," we can know that three heavens exist.

Well there is much on these from so many schollars, I just brought these at least you can have the views of one or  two on it.

Either Paul died at lystra stoning or not, My point is that we have been given dominion over death , for those who can recieve this message of eternal life. If you believe it , it will work for you.

@MOG2009:

You misunderstand me. I DID NOT SAY HE IS A FREEMASON. I used it as an illustration because a few weeks ago, some people here argued he was a Mason because he made some signs. At that time, I defended him and said it was inconclusive.

This argument made me use that as an example that just as the evidence APPARENTLY suggested he was a Mason, so it is that those who stoned paul APPARENTLY thought he was dead. Was Paul dead? Is Chris a Mason? My answer is NO to both but I wanted Joagabje to understand the language construct.

PAUL was NOT dead. I do not believe Chris Oyakilome is a FreeMason.

@Nuclearboy, your point is noted.
