The Egbe Alago is a secret society in the Yoruba kingdom (which is said to encompass the people living in the northern, eastern, southern and western parts of Nigeria). The association or society was said to have been founded in the twentieth century, precisely 1988. It is said that the members are the leaders among the judiciary, politicians of great repute, public office holders of worth and decision makers in the business world. As well, in educational circles, they are not found wanting.
In fact, The Society has in it the societal elites from various organizations and walks of life, nationally and in diasporas and their basic aim is ensuring and maintaining national power, positions and resolution among and within the members of their society. Because of these, many talk of The Egbe Alago in whispers and with great honour, reverend and fear. Indeed, the Yoruba indigenes and even outsiders are in great awe of The Egbe Alago .
In reflection of the communal progressiveness, the motto of The Egbe Alago is ‘itesiwaju Egbe Alago’ which literally translates to mean “progressive union of the Alago’s”.
The high and the mighty in the community are in this society both male and female, in fact you could say that much of the movers and shakers of the kingdom and even the country belongs to The Egbe Alago.
It is assumed by everyone around that many join The Society because of the benefits and opportunities in The Society and because of the possible achievements
said to await members. For instance, a politician may be a politician all his life and remain unknown but membership puts such in the frontline of politics. Also, a doctor may be very professional but may not get a good job but membership of The Society would help such to get a job with mouth watering remunerations in the medical industry. Still, a man or a woman at that, may own a business and be a failure but not when such is a member. Once again, membership of The Society brings success to such a member in whatever business such chooses.
These tones of benefits have lured several elites into The Society and there is no gain saying the fact that successes of the members of The Egbe Alago individually and that of The Egbe Alago as a group is attained, ascertained and sustained through God fatherism in the society. The Society backed by the wealthy Yorubas and the Yoruba traditional priests led by their traditional chief priest who is from Offa. All of these see to the fact that all the spiritual concepts of the society are well practiced, upheld and transferred from generation to generation.
