What's the different between this and what he was quoted saying initially?

Duke is becoming more confused. He's obviously starting on a wrong note.

They are different. He references human rights dignity as per se like what we see the police doing now, harassing people on some unfounded allegations.

Now I know that, Donald duke is a big hypocrite.

How can someone be contradicting himself like this? In one statement, he is holding two opposite opinions

I will Neva vote for this guy again

I would advise this niga avoid this topic. It's a tricky subject even in the u.s. It questions more your own core values. It's not about gays this question, it's about what you owe as truth. It must come from your heart as honest believe. It doesn't have an intellectual answer enough yet.

But from the position of a political aspirant I will say. Tell them categorical you are not in support. It appeals more to the majority. Lgb community in Nigeria is a minority. You don't want that look from the mojority.

WotzupNG:

Former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke has come out to clear the air on a statement he made concerning homosexuality in a recent interview with Falz and Laila on the show 'On The Couch'.

In the interview, Donald Duke while explaining his views on how he intends to lead the country, went on to bring up the issue of LGBT rights in Nigeria saying “I don’t understand the emotional feelings a gay person would have toward someone of their sexuality. I don’t understand it. But I would not criminalise them. I would ensure that they have the protection of the law. But if they want to exhibit their sexuality, then that’s an affront on the current norms of society.”

After much negative reactions to his words, the presidential aspirant has now released a statement saying the interview was taken out of context. Donald Duke now says, 'Homosexuality is a crime in Nigeria and ought to remain so'.

See the full statement below.

Why are folks abusing him? The man said in both statements that he cannot fathom anyone being gay, meaning he is repulsed by the mere idea and continued that yet he wouldn't punish them for that except they openly declare it and rub it in the face of the law.

All he was saying was, if you are gay, kindly hide it, don't try to drag anyone else into it by being proud and openly flaunting it else the law of the land will deal with you.

Homosexuality is a crime because Nigerians love double standards.

Okay religiously why do we still marry females who are non virgins? Why don't we take her to get stoned as mandated in the Deuteronomy 23? Of a truth there are a lot of abominations codified in the Bible which we violate today but homosexuality is the only one that gives us sleepless nights SmH.

What he was saying initially was that he wouldn't waste his time actively pursuing homosexuals but would rather spend his time doing more productive work.... But trust Nigerian press and Nigerians to reconstruct his statement for the sake of getting more traffic. Most bloggers are truly shameless.
And even sef wetin concern us if person be gay? We have so many problems in this country and we are concerned with homosexuality #misplacedpriorities.
I wouldn't mind voting a gay man or woman if he/she can provide me with constant electricity, security and job and other basic amenities we need in this country.
Not everything that is immoral has to be illegal

. Which presidency? He can never and he will never. Presidential aspirant who is not feeling comfortable to do the wedding ceremony of her daughter in Nigeria but prefer Switzerland to Nigeria. If this one becomes president of Nigeria his own will worst more than anybody.

There's a standing law in the country against this act. If any politician want to receive public sympathy in exchange for votes, it's unwise to attack the law.

I've not seen the police go against anyone's acclaimed human right base on allegation as you stated...especially on the gay law. Bobrisky and other has been accused of being gay and I've not heard of their arrest. No one is abusing anyone's human right, this is just a situation of a president aspirant trying to look good before the people. Unfortunately, this one is a wrong move. This is not America. This is Nigeria!

Homosexuality is wrong, plain and simple! It is against the divine principle of marriage and procreation.

And so is sex before marriage dude but here we are.

Why do we practice one and leave the other?

I can't condone acts of homosexuality but if 2 adult mehn in their right minds decide to elope with each other what then is my business?

Spot on. A lot of Nigerians are not capable of logical reasoning where homosexuality is concerned. They need straightforward answers. Either you support or you don't support. No in-between.

Crime or not homosexuality is here to stay and isn't going anywhere, I don't bother myself much with silly arguments over it, no matter how you try you can't stop two adults from consenting to love and cherish themselves

My sister, thank you for this..at a time.i started wondering if Nigerians cannot read and discern information anymore without following the backwogan headlines of bloggers..it baffles me.After reading it i came to realize what he was trying to say..which is not bad..before now homos were doing their stuff behind closed doors and people pretended it they do not exist until they decided to bring it out in the open to campaign for their right..in order to be accepted for who they are..society cannot accept them but at the same time they should not flout it in the open..i understand Donald Duke. Please Nigerians should try to read news/infomation on the pages of the paper very well before jumping into conclusion this is the reason why we are easily fooled by our leaders because of this problem. It as if majority of Nigerian are shallow minded..

Where in my write up did you see homophobia is an African thing....

All I'm saying is that we waste so much energy on frivolities.... How is it my business or your business what two grown sane adults of same sex do to each other in their bedroom ... In their house...
No church or mosque in the country is going to Wed them anyway...

We don't have steady light in 2018
Unemployment is at all time high
People will rather risk their lives going abroad than stay here... Our politicians are still piling money everywhere..
Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world...

We are not getting it right.... Let's focus

Damage control.
Say your mind and be unapologetic about it. How is homosexuality a crime? Does it pose a threat to the lives and property of people in the society? If your answer is no, I repeat how is homosexuality a crime?

We have other pressing issues anyway
