Living Conditions Of Inmates In Warri Prison (Disturbing Photos ) by weIMPORT: 4:47am On Sep 06, 2018

Social activist, Prince Emefiele Harrison who was once a prison inmate, has taken to his Facebook page to share the worrying living condition of inmates in Warri Prison where he visited recently.

Harrison who was in prison for four years awaiting trial before he was released for lack of evidence against him, paid a visit to Okere prison's yesterday September 5th, and according to him, what he saw was beyond dehumanizing.

He claimed that some of the inmates have Tuberculosis and are made to buy the drugs donated by churches or charity organization.

Posting via his Facebook page, Harrison who shared photos from his visit, wrote

DELTA STATE PRISON WARDERS ENJOYS PRISONERS FOOD, LEAVES THEM MALNOURISHED - HARRISON GWAMNISHU

1. Controller of Prisons
2. Minister of Interior
3. Controller of Prisons, Delta State
4. DCP Warri Prison
(Humbly tender your resignation to Mr. President).

2016, I published two malnourished sicked inmates in Ogwashi Uku prison Delta State and I was assured they will be giving full medical attention. They both died two days later.

Today, I took the risk, visited another prison Delta State OKERE PRISON WARRI and got these pictures.

I wish to state without any fear that Federal Government, Nigeria Prison Service, Ministry of interior and Delta State Government should be charged to court for gross human rights violations of Awaiting trial prisoners.

If you can't keep them, set them free than punish them with with severe pains that will lead to their death.

Look at the food
Look at the inmates....

No Form of Reformation
No Rehabilitation programs.

If they don't pay, no health care, no good drugs. Inmates buy drugs donated by churches, NGO etc.

They will be taking to General hospital warri when they are about to die.

Am waiting for another committe to be setup to investigate...
#PrisonReform #DecongestNigeriaPrisons.

Those that are out of prison are not better in anyway, you can see hungry faces everywhere you go. grin grin grin. That's the dividend of democracy delivered by our politicians.

I have always told myself that an average civil servant in Nigeria is corrupt. You cannot expect Nigeria to change while we keep voting for some of these leaders who are bereft of ideas. There is a need for prison reforms in this nation. Those who should be in prison are actually running our political system at the moment.

Is that beans or human excreta? It is very appalling.
That is why I always tell people to avoid anything that land you in a police cell because even a day there is akin to being in hell on earth talkless of those who serve long prison sentences there.
Just imagine prisoners buying drugs that are freely donated by missionaries and NGO to cater for their welfare.Prisoners are even deprived of what is rightly theirs. That is a pointer to the level of corruption that subsist in the police force.
If only our government will do something about it this time because there have been lamentations in past over the same issue.Still nothing has been done to alleviate the plight of prisoners.

While a prison is not to be made too homely, it is supposed to be some sort of a reformatory home, where inmates are treated humanely and availed the opportunity to reflect on their deeds and possibly turn a new leaf.

This is hugely inhumane and will only end up further damaging the inmate's psyche and making them more hardened.

You'd be shocked to know the figures budgeted annually to cater for each inmate in Nigerian prisons.

Not proud to share this, but i've found myself in one where every morning you'd be handed a daily pack consisting of a full bread loaf, pack of milk, sugar, shaving sticks if you desire one, and whatever fruit was available for the day. And then on a weekly, you are entitled to magarine or jam and a pocket money for shopping.

You can shop whatever you want to, meat, chicken and all sorts of groceries except alcohol. But we had a way around making our own alcoholic brew with bread and apple left fermented. There's a kitchen for cooking and a well stocked gymnasium, wherefrom you can build up some muscles.

Will dig up the figures and post here when I can.

Enjoy my siggy

Okere Prison things. In Nigeria, the government doesn't care about prisoners. The prison warders steal from the prisoners. The money meant for prisoner's welfare is stolen by the warders and its so bad. How do you steal from prisoners?

According to Erigga:
"I do four years for Okere / if not for God, I for don kpuff trowey".

In this clime, prisons are strictly punitive enclosures, nothing more.
They are far from correctional facilities. That's why exconvicts are worse off after doing time.
