My mum will always say to my friends and I while growing up "a child who smokes is a dead child and a dead child is gone for life". The seriousness with which these lines of metaphor were released made me to view smoking literally as poison that can cause instant death as a child.

The reality in this statement got me this past week when I saw an astute politician, one that had occupied one of the best seats of power in the land. His appearance in the comity of folks in his supposed cadre left him spotted with such questionable difference. Haggard looking and lacking composure. This aside the fact that his impact as a supposed "statesman" has remained infinitesimal since he left office.

The old tale of people becoming irrelevant once they left office may be normal, nevertheless sources close to him said that he smokes marijuanua and abuse other hard drugs like no man's business.

With all his previous achievements and the prospects he may have in the sight of family, friends, by standers and admirers in the society. As a person, something is wrong with him!

Yes, he may have all the money but the real essence of life is embedded in relevance and good legacy. It supersedes wealth!

The rate at which Nigerian youths abuse drugs today is dangerously phenomenal. In some places its embedded in their culture to smoke weeds, others see it as enjoyment, relaxation and means of calming pressure, be it alcohol, marijuana (igbo), shisha, cigeratte, SK, tramadol, codein, refnol, monkey tail and what have you. The very minute you engage, you have just paid transport to embark on "highway to the grave".

You may not die physically, but the real essence of life you may not be able to grasp without a sober mind no matter your wealth or connection. You are dead!

Show me 10 mad people (psychopaths) and I will show you 8 that abused drugs.

What ever life throws at you face it with clear eye. Approach life soberly and conquer your fear by thinking for the best solution to give to any predicament. Drug abuse is a cowardly way of postponing responsibility and a dangerous means of relaxation!

Face life with all you were endowed with before being born. Meet good people and above all your creator for counsel in difficult times so that your life will impact lives..
